Congratulations! Keep us informed of weekly / monthly units sold (if you wish) - be interesting to see the time series shape. The deal with Amazon seems like what you would get under monopoly conditions and they say they don't pay any tax? I suppose you would have to declare the miserly 26 p / copy income you would get to the tax man (and subtracting out your own expenditure & time is money equivalents).

Correct SA, Amazon don't pay tax on their almost £4, but I'd have to on my 26p.

I've created and published the Kindle version of Endangered Creatures now, but it's "In Review" where I guess they make sure it's not a load of old tosh before they let it through. Apparently that can take up to 12 hours.

The pricing is weird for it, as I had to set all prices for different regions, and base it from the US price. Plus, there's VAT of 3% on top it seems, but I'm not sure if that gets added to the price the customer pays, or gets taken from my royalties. What does happen though, is I have to pay for delivery. Of an ebook. They charge per MB of data, it's not much but they're also taking a 30% cut of sales. And they seem to encourage you to upload high resolution images for "quality". Which of course drives the file size up.

Oh, dear... my current amount of tsundoku is great enough already. This isn't helping.

Ah, but that's why you should buy this one to read, it'll help you break the vicious cycle you've fallen into smiley - laugh

Oooh, it's moved from "In Review" to "Publishing", I guess that means that it'll go on sale as soon as they've entered it then.

I'd love to know what their review criteria are...

At this point, I need a mild hurricane to knock out the power for a week or so and keep me home from work with no TV or internets. smiley - laugh

I can't help but think their review criteria are "Is it (arguably) legal, and will it make us money?" smiley - erm

Although to be fair, Kindle Direct Publishing does have a good set of guidelines about how to do each step of the process, and it's not too difficult to be honest.

Titania (gone for lunch)

So there's a special word for it? Tsundoku? Not that I'd have much use for it - no book that enters my home stays unread. Usually I start reading it on my way home after buying it.

I've got a lot of books I haven't read, but only because I inherited my grandmother's collection, which was close to 2,000 books.

I really ought to sort them out.

2,000?smiley - yikes

*calculates*

You'd better get started then, Pastey - based on my reading speed, it'd take me at least 20 years to read that many books.

Mine isn't numerically outstanding. I can probably name them.

I started a Chuck Palahniuk book but have left it on my nightstand.
I bought, but haven't started Genesis. (It's the bible book illustrated by Robert Crumb, should be very interesting.)
For years I've owned yet have never seriously started reading the following: a biography of Warhol. Wolfram's A New Kind of Science. Godel Escher Bach. Jefferson: Negro President.

There are a couple of other science biographies and histories I think I started and left to moulder.

I'm currently reading Pratchett/Baxter The Long Earth on my tablet (and have several books queued up once that's done) and last week, I couldn't pass up the chance to purchase a signed copy of Col. Chris Hadfield's An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth.

The last hardback book I bought and read at home should be noted. It was Eustace by our own Spimcoot. smiley - ok

I've just got to bring NoseBagBear's review of my book to everyone's attention: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Endangered-Creatures-Stephen-Dunkley-ebook/dp/B00GTROR8Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1385194307&sr=8-1&keywords=endangered+creatures

I don't think I could have written a better one myself! smiley - biggrin

I was just thinking how much I resent Amazon taking such a large cut of the price of your book, then I thought of a solution smiley - eureka

If I wait until I next see you, I can pay you the 26p direct smiley - biggrin
