Bluebottle Posted Jun 27, 2019
Today I am mostly hearing:
'Saved' – Bob Dylan
'Secret History: Best of the Divine Comedy'
'Self Portrait' – Bob Dylan
'Sentimental Journey' – Ringo Starr
'Seventies Album, The' – [various] <- Probably won't finish listening to this triple album today.
Icy:
Scouse the Mouse OST
Self Portrait - Bob Dylan
Sentimental Journey - Ringo Starr
Shadows in the Night - Bob Dylan
Shot of Love - Bob Dylan
I like Bob Dylan, I really do. He's a brilliant, unique lyricist with an unparalleled grasp of the English language, and he may not be the most melodic singer but his style suits his songs. That said, he has some of the worst album artwork ever and 'Shot of Love' is poor even by his standards. But hey, you don't buy a record to listen to the cover.
And I like 'Self Portrait'. It may one of the worst-reviewed albums of all time, with 'Rolling Stone' magazine famously printing the review 'What is this ?' but it is an eclectic mix with the added bonus of having his live performance at the Isle of Wight Festival and the first Dylan release of 'Mighty Quinn' (although the original release of 'Self Portrait' lacks the improved clarity found on CD so by today's standards the original live recordings were poor quality). The reason for the angry reviews was that it was released in 1969 when it was known he had recorded the goldmine of the Basement Tapes and songs of the quality of 'Mighty Quinn' and 'This Wheel's on Fire' to name but two – and wasn't releasing them properly. The music world was incensed: why was Dylan releasing cover versions of mediocre songs when he had recorded some of the greatest songs of his career, and was refusing to let his fans hear them in their true glory?
Now that the backlash has subsided it is true that 'Sentimental Journey' isn't really a substitute for the Basement Tapes, but judged on its own merit it is fine.

Yay!
I recommend Salva Nos if you can find it - I think you'd enjoy it
Bit of a long shot because you have recently bought Definitive Simon and Garfunkel, but I'll try:
Simon and Garfunkel - Greatest Hits
Sing when you're Winning - Robbie Williams
Sing! Soundtrack
Signed, Sealed & Delivered - Stevie Wonder
Sheryl Crow

Bluebottle Posted Jun 28, 2019
Today I'll see if I can get as far as:
'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' – The Beatles
'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: 50th Anniversary Edition' – The Beatles
'Shaved Fish' – John Lennon
'Simpsons Sing the Blues' – The Simpsons
'Singin' in the Rain' – [OST]
Icy:
Silverball - Barenaked Ladies
Slow Train Coming - Bob Dylan
Snacktime! - Barenaked Ladies
Some Time in New York City - Lennon/Oko
Something New - The Beatles
Sasha:
Simon and Garfunkel - Greatest Hits
Sing when you're Winning - Robbie Williams
Sing! Soundtrack
Signed, Sealed & Delivered - Stevie Wonder
Sheryl Crow
I'll give you a point for 'Simon and Garfunkel Greatest Hits' as I have a very short album titled 'Sound of Silence and other hits' which seems one of those 6 songs a side bargain basement early greatest hits albums, the ones where they issue half a dozen different albums with different titles, different covers and they all contain exactly the same songs in a different order.
The only Sheryl Crow I have is the 'Tomorrow Never Dies' single.

Oh blow - I've got some of those. Continuing on the basis that I should go through my own collection first:

Somewhere in England - George Harrison
(The) Silver-tongued Devil and I - Kris Kristofferson
Patricia Kaas - Sexe fort
Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate

Today I may be hearing:
'Slipper and the Rose, The' – [OST, the Sherman Brothers]
'Slow Train Coming' – Bob Dylan
'So Far So Good' – Bryan Adams
'Soft Rock Anthems' – [various]
'Slow Train Coming' is a Grammy award-winning album and the first and best of Dylan's three Christian albums. In the late 70s Dylan had some Gospel backing singers in his band, and dated a couple of them before marrying one in the mid-80s. Many of them were members of a church and invited Dylan along around the time he felt he had a religious experience. Dylan's always said his songwriting inspiration came from God rather than himself and has used a lot of religious references and symbols in his songs anyway. Still, he was inspired to try and write some Gospel songs for his then Gospel-singing girlfriend to sing, and then he was persuaded that more people would hear them if he released them himself. Some people got very worked up, saying that Dylan should not sing religious songs. The way I see it, a singer promoting their personal beliefs is Mostly Harmless – don't listen if you don't like it. But then I never did get why people hate George Harrison song 'My Sweet Lord' in which he sings about Hare Krishna, but love his song 'Taxman' in which he complains that since becoming a millionaire he is paying a lot of tax ?
Steppenwolf - Steppenwolf
Somewhere in England - George Harrison
Silver-tongued Devil and I, The - Kris Kristofferson
Sexe fort - Patricia Kaas -
Songs of Love and Hate - Leonard Cohen
Strange but true – Kris Kristofferson has the honour of being the first person ever booed off stage at the Isle of Wight Festival. Actually that's not strange at all 'cos he was awful.
I really should get more George Harrison…

Depends which 'people' are talking, I suppose... I know 'My Sweet Lord', but don't know if I have ever heard 'Taxman'... I do know Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money) by the Pet Shop Boys, though!
Thank you for the Simon and Garfunkel point
Let's try:
Something Else by the Kinks

Space Oddity - David Bowie

Talking of the Stones, it said in our paper that this July marks the 50th anniversary of Brian Jones' drowning. I can remember it so clearly.

One of my favourite trivia facts is that Brian Jones died in AA Milne’s swimming pool.

'Brian Jones died in AA Milne’s swimming pool.'
That sounds like one surreal game of Cluedo; I suspect Piglet in the Swimming Pool with the Heffalump.
Today I am mostly hearing:
'Something New' – The Beatles
'Songs 1975-1990, The' – Barry Manilow (not mine)
'Songs for Singing Islanders' – Lauri Say (would have given you at least 10 points if you'd guessed)
'Sounds of Silence' – Simon and Garfunkel
Icy North:
Some Girls - Rolling Stones
Sound of the Underground - Girls Aloud
Spice - Spice Girls <- My wife's
Stunt - Barenaked Ladies
Sunny Afternoon – Kinks <- I've already mentioned this.

Ah, I remembered Lauri Say from the Beer and Buses Entry, but the album wasn't in my handy list, so I forgot about it by the time 'S' arrived... Never mind
Congratulations on finding Innuendo in the charity shop - the perfect companion to The Miracle
Good to know you now have an album beginning with Q, too
