Indeed, there are some days that becoming a cocoon seems such the perfect idea, eh? Much of last week, I sure wish that I could have. smiley - brr

The week is still young'ish ... How's the stuff of the work? And were there any grand adventures over the week-end, ... that are safe for posting here? smiley - evilgrin

smiley - rofl well.. the weekend we did the Sinterklaas thing. The original Santa Claus was of course brought along with the Dutch to New Amsterdam, where the English captured him and called him Santa Clause. And they changed the dates. Sinterklaas' birthday is 6th December and parcel night is 5th. And as weekends are more convenient we prefer to "modify" that again.
So we all sat down Sunday afternoon and had a mountain of presents, parcels, ... and a poem (well..) with every present (tradition).
As for the presents: Quantity!! not quality. Same for the size of the poems. Many presents were socks, t-shirts, pyamas, ... some were serious.

ah, and of course there was lots of candy. huge amounts of candy. Mountains of candy. I assume the hatchlings will be able to munch their way through the month without asking for more smiley - smiley

Well.. that was the weekend. (preparation for that was .. writing poems all Saturday smiley - erm)

Oh, your dentist is just going to love all of you, isn't she? smiley - laugh

I don't begrudge you the poem-writing. If I can string 3 lines together without an obvious break in rhythm, I'm doing fabulously. smiley - laugh

In all though, it sounds like it was a magical time for the whole little herd. smiley - hug

smiley - rofl and then of course there's the aftermath .. sick young dinosaurs, stuffed themselves senseless with candy .. I thought I had it under control smiley - rofl well.. Bob started by shoveling a huge lump of chocolate in.. the young ones followed rapidly, and I cleaned up afterwards smiley - whistle

Quietly relieved that it happens but once a year, eh? smiley - laugh

It's also a good lesson for hatchlings though, to be so stuff with sweets that they become smiley - ill. Most learn and understand that most enjoyments are in reasonable moderation. Unfortunately, they often forget by the time they are fully grown. smiley - rofl

smiley - rofl the best lesson is that now they's almost no candy left smiley - evilgrin

smiley - rofl and I've quite often seen grown up males stuffing themselves till violently sick .. usually with smiley - ale or smiley - stiffdrink but the effects are roughly the same smiley - whistle

*ahem* I might point out that over-doing it with smiley - ale, smiley - stiffdrink and smiley - bubbly is not purely a male flaw. I have known quite a number of the other half of the species to put many males to shame with their intake. smiley - laugh

We never had to worry about over-much candy and sweets when young. Christmas and Easter were about the only time they were in the house. Instead, assorted roast nuts, oranges, grapes, peanuts ... They seemed to be in unlimited quantity. Maybe my mother figured if we had to shell or peel a treat, we'd not want so much of them. smiley - rofl

smiley - bigeyes "shell or peel a treat" ... now why didn't I think of that before! A brilliant idea smiley - evilgrin I'll do some work on this the next weeks smiley - evilgrin

Oh there's nothing like the reward of a well-shelled walnut, hazelnut or filbert. I learned that I like them all. And still to this day, a treat is a bag of peanuts, roasted in the shells. smiley - biggrin

I used to really enjoy anything sweet that I could find, because such things as dessert only happened a half-dozen times a year. Then I joined the military, and found that they offered cakes and pastries with EVERY meal !!! I think I may have over-done it, because now it's only the occassional apple or pumpkin pie that I like. smiley - erm

walnuts, hazelnuts, peanuts .. Hard to stop eating those. They make me thirsty as well smiley - laugh

I don't know if the mess halls still serve as fattening and calorie-rich as they did in the 70s. (Yeah, yeah, waaaaaay before your time, young girlie) They have probably gone somewhat more economical and healthy since I left it all behind.

smiley - yikes That's nearly NINE years ago that I became ex-military !!! I really can't say "civilian", because after a certain time in the uniform, you'll never truly think or act as a civvy again. I'm not absolutely sure if that's a good or bad thing, to be honest. smiley - erm

Babette - Dinosaure

smiley - laugh wait a minute, wait a minute.. I was around during all the 70s apart from the first three months smiley - tongueout I admit I may have had problems walking during the first year smiley - whistle

smiley - laugh after nine years you're quite near "civilian", mind you as long as you don't salute your lady wife when she comes to inspect your quarters, you're probably close to civilian. (I hope you don't call her captain)

Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear }

Nawww, I just call her "Yes, Dear". Always the safest way. smiley - laugh

Really, after a time, you just don't see the world, your politicians, a great many things the same way. And I doubt that I ever will. A certain of cynicism pervades everything. That's why I said I'm not sure if it's good or bad.

But hey !!! All the lovely girls still look just as pretty. So not all is changed or lost. smiley - evilgrin

Post 419

Babette - Dinosaure

smiley - rofl .. safest way .. yessssssmiley - evilgrin

Cynism.. yes, I think I can understand that, although I don't really know anything about armies and soldiers. Easy to see that politicians and "civilian society" become something completely different. smiley - biggrin different isn't necessarily bad, and for some the difference between cynism and realism is thin indeed.

Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear }

So long as the skeptical cynic doesn't take over, and make a body a sour and cranky old beggar, it's not all bad, I suppose. And somehow, I don't see that happening to me just yet. smiley - evilgrin

So just curious, ... what is the "Master's" most common method of smiley - groveling? smiley - laugh
