Thanks for the links Scorp. More snow is forecast for us tonight or tomorrow, not sure how much. My birds are apreciating the food too, and a fox came yesterday. The badgers haven't been for several days, sensible creature. Why come out of a nice warm sett with all the fat they have laid on at McWebbies
```````````````````
Sue, how lovely your grandson is, and what a sensible question about the snow. As for the other comment I had a good laugh, thank you
Please don''t risk driving all that way if there is the slightest risk, the forecast doesn't sound good.
Hi both,i did not make it to Brighton,firstly,there was a bad accident on my route and twenty mile tailbacks also my sister informed me it was still snowing there.The last thing i wanted was to get stuck in a blizzard for a few days with my mother
All it did here was rain stair rods, it tried to snow later but it came to nothing. Tomorrow is supposed to be cold but sunny,so i may get a chance to get out,i am beginning to get stir crazy.
I am glad the have the sense to stay in the warm. My foxes still call to dine nightly and i am sure they enjoy the stuff i put out as there is nothing left in the morning
WS. you are right about Harry,he is a joy. After all the great toys he got for Christmas, his favourite thing to play with is his mothers hair drier.He dries his own hair after a bath then the dog gets it also the cat and anyone else who is close by
Take care
Glad you didn't risk it. It has snowed again here overnight and again during the day, and it is freezing now. More tomorrow or Thursday then wind and rain for the weekend - frankly I know it is selfish, but I would rather have the snow. My SAD goes away when the snow comes.
Harry sounds a bundle of fun and quite useful
*Waves* to Scorp.
Take care,
The Great British Bird count was a bit of a washout It did nothing but rain very hard all weekend. My normal sightings of masses of assorted birds was very much reduced. The only good thing was the Green Woodpecker that i keep hearing, turned up for breakfast I had no camera as i was supposed to be working It was skulking about under one of the feeders,they always look so furtive to me,like criminals on the prowl
After the snow,it has barely stopped raining and as Dorset was pretty waterlogged before we are now back to the floods again. The Stour has burst it's banks again and if it stops raining i will try to get down to Throop Mill and look at the damage. The last time this happened,a huge Pike got washed into the mill pond,got stranded then later on ate all the ducklings when they hatched. I may take up Pike fishing if this has happened again
Well,only thirty days to go before i meet up with Scorp,SS and the lovely Harry who i hope is keeping the bed warm for me
I didn't do the bird count this year, and it is just as well because the snow had gone, we had plenty of rain and the birds had 'other fish to fry' apparently.
I occasionally hear a green woodpecker but as yet have not seen one, though our young friend had a visit from one a couple of years ago.
I hope the water levels drop soon, it must be very muddy everywhere. I remember the pike eating the ducklings - most upsetting
Don't get falling in the water Sue
If you catch a pike Bluesue, bring it up here! I adore pike - preferably stuffed and roasted. If we go to Cromford Canal on your visit, you will be more or less guaranteed to see one there. I'm told it's a jack pike but don't know the difference from the usual ones.
When are the deer due to calve? We could perhaps see them in Woollaton Park if you like.
Hi both Scorp,the Red and Fallow Deer do not give birth until May through to July,so, we will be too early for that event.
I got out for a short while today.The floods at Throope have subsided a bit,but the Mill Pond has been invaded by the river.The bridge has been closed for a while now,mainly because it is unstable and a temporary bridge has been put in it's place. The normal quiet meandering river is a raging torrent and the noise on the bridge was like an express train in a tunnel The swans look a bit baffled as their normal nesting site has disappeared under water.
As for eating Pike, too many sharp bones!
Work tomorrow I don't like it there much anymore,all but two of the originals have died and apart from one or two,the new lot are a miserable bunch,who spend their time moaning about everything and each other Still.only 29 days to go and counting
So sorry to hear so many of your 'charges' have gone Sue. Maybe a few months of your good grub will put the new ones in a better frame of mind
We have had a glorious day, sunny but very windy,I had to chase my recycling down the road this evening, everything was taking off
More of the wet stuff to come I hear, which I hate. I felt so much better in the sunshine today.
Take care both,
I woke up this morning,that's something i suppose. The black dog was was firmly gnawing at my brain,just over three weeks until my holiday and that seems like a lifetime away,then,i shambled into the kitchen for a cup of tea,looked out of the window and the lawn was covered in Primroses That cheered me up,no more blue,just bright cheery yellow.It is still very cold,bitter in fact. We even had a light dusting of snow,but the sun is shining weather.
I have to go to a staff meeting tomorrow and a funeral on Thursday after work. Work all weekend,then, my Mothers on Monday until Wednesday.I am hoping all this activity will make the time pass quickly and get me nearer to my much needed rest.
I hope all is well with you two
I woke the other day feeling very similar till I looked outside and saw the snowdrops were through, and other bulbs are showing several inches The latter is a bit worrying because if they are up too soon they won't survive the weather.
I am kicking myself for not planting a whole stack of snowdrop bulbs last year as intended. Note to self - MUST do it this year, as their blooms lift my spirits so much.
Bitterly cold here, with a biting strong wind, but it was sunny so I can cope with that.
*waves* to Scorp, hope you are coping ok with the cold.
<goodluck with the work and the visit, i hope the weather holds out for you.Keeping busy is the only way to make the time pass quickly at this time of year.
The Derbyshire witch is fine thanks *waves* to both
I also can't wait for 1st March Sue; but I suppose that like you, I'll just have to
We have snowdrops too - white tips showing but not yet opened. Also in their greenery are the crocuses, daffodils; and would you believe tulips.
WS, i feel bad about not keeping in touch,i speak to Scorp on the phone,so she knows what it happening,but, even that has been scant,i have been so busy. The funeral i had to go to was,as i had expected,a bit of a formal do. The trouble is with me, i see humour when i shouldn't. I can't help it,but, i had an overwhelming desire to laugh my head off. There was a woman at the funeral from the British Legion,who bore the flag,she kept,clicking her heels,Adolf Hitler style,upping the flag, clicking her heels,lowering the flag ad infer nitem i had an overwhelming desire to strangle her
My journey to Mothers was dogged with strife, firstly,an unforecast blizzard, then, the road was closed completely we were diverted to Bognor Regis,a nice place,but somewhere i had not planned visiting. I then went to Littlehampton,also quite cute,but of no help to where i wanted to go
When i eventually got to my Mothers,i found her knitting a scarf,it was soooooo long it could have reached me at Bournemouth She is so much better,but it is now only the pacemaker that is keeping her alive. i took her to the cardiac unit for her check up and her heartbeat is only 34 bps,so, without the wretched thing,she would be dead. The joys of modern science
I have only one more weekend to work,the odd thursday then up up and away,fun and games with Scorp,SS, and my secret boyfriend,Harry. Note to self, ( must buy prawns)
No idea Sue, but the apology is not necessary. I have been a bit busy myself as the family is on the move again soon
Glad your Mum is it is less of a worry for you.
You would have liked PHM's funeral then, it was lovely, ending with 'Ilkely Moor' which took a lot of people by surprise but we planned a very Yorkshire funeral, and just had close friends back for a bite and a natter.
I have attended an awful lot of funerals, as you do when you get older, and I was determined it would not be a formal, sombre affair, he wouldn't have liked it, and I plan to go out to the New Orleans Funeral March skipping along happily
Have a lovely time with Scorp and family, I hope the weather stays fine for you. I have a less cheerful thing to do that week but never mind.
Well,i am feeling it today,i am now a Great Grandmother Danny,my eldest grandson and his Mrs had a son this morning. This makes Jacob a Grandad I took him a walking stick and some slippers this afternoon,he was not impressed In fact he leaped onto his thousand cc motorbike and tore off to Portsmouth to see the young sprog. I told my mother,but she got a bit muddled about how many greats there were in her new title All she seemed to remember was there would be another cheque to write out at Christmas Samuel is a bit confused,i told him he was an Uncle, he then asked, as he was Uncle Sam,does that make him an American I gave up and went home
As for funerals,i am not having one. I shall leave my body to medical science. It will take them years to work out how i lived for so long in spite of all the punishment i have put my body through
Oh, you do like to make things difficult for people. They will never be able to fathom you out.
A Great Grandmother? How lovely at such a young age. I doubt if I will live long enough to see any grandchildren.
Just enjoy being a disgraceful, eccentric Great Grandmother they will all remember with affection
