Six Degrees of... whatever

In the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine they have a feature on the 1987 adventure 'Paradise Towers' in which they mention that one of the smaller roles, that of a young Caretaker who gets killed off early on, was played by a young actor called Joseph Young. They reveal that Joe Young is the son of one of the Kaye Sisters.

Now, the Kaye Sisters were like the Sugababes of the 1950s, and it just so happens that my second cousin, Michael Sangster, was at one time married to Shan (AKA Shirley), the youngest of the three Kaye sisters. It's her sister Carole that gave birth to young fella-me-lad from 'Paradise Towers'.

So my second cousin was his mum's brother-in-law.

A few pages on from this little revelation (not that it said all of
this in the archive - their researcher's good, but not *that* good), I read that a company called BBV have done an audio play about a knight who appeared in one of the old Doctor Who novels, 'Sanctuary', and he's played by someone called Joe Young.

Now I'm wondering if he's the same bloke as the one from 'Paradise Towers'?

Even though I have a pretty good knowledge of Doctor Who actors, I've never actually noticed this actor's name before (it was a VERY small part he played) and it's kind of funny to see the same name twice in an issue of Doctor Who Magazine a few weeks after you find out your second cousin was married to a celebrity in the '50s.

Last h2g2 thought of 2002...

'... and as we sit here alone,
Looking for a reason to go on,
It's so clear that all we have now
Are our thoughts of yesterday.'

Well, it wouldn't be be if I didn't finish on a dodgy music reference. God bless Strawberry Switchblade, and best wishes to all the boys and girls, wherever you are in the world.

Actually, thinking about it, that quote's a bit maudlin.

'Most friends get to call him "T.C."
Pro-vi-ding it's with dignityyyyy...
TOP CAT!'

Yep, that's better.

Happy New Year, h2g2 smiley - bubbly

Dreams

Okay, I know people who go on about their dreams are often really dull, but...

Last night I had a dream that I was visited by an old friend. Nothing too unusual about that, you might think. But the thing is, this particular friend died nearly two years ago and it left my social group in shellshock for quite some time. So I was a litle surprised to see him.

In the dream, my friend was sat in a chair in the middle of a party and only I could see him. I knew he was dead, and that he shouldn't have been there, but it didn't worry me, talking to a ghost. He reassured me that he's doing fine now, although his speech was a little slurred - an after-effect of the heart-attack that took him from us, I realised. He could only stay for a short time, and his parting words were 'I'll be floating over you'... and then he was gone.

Funny, I used to do dream analysis for a few friends of mine, but I find that I don't want to know if this one has any other meaning. I'm happy with the one that tells me he's okay.

24-ness (Friday 2 August, 2002)

Last week, my latest book was published, the unofficial guide to the TV show 24 (if I can say that without being told off for advertising - eep!). Since then, things have gotten a little crazy. Heat magazine listed it as one of their top ten books of the week. The Mirror mentioned it in an interview with one of the show's stars. On Sunday evening I'll be doing a live phone-in to the BBCi 24 chatroom (as Davina always reminds us - "you are live to the nation, please do NOT swear") and in just over two weeks I'll be gracing the screens of BBC Choice subscribers in a live discussion after the last episode.

Not bad, considering I vowed in January not to write any more books.

Hmmm...
