Well I was going to ask if you knew how to install gimp plugins. However you have read my journal so you should know I've sorted it out.

OwlofDoom Posted Apr 13, 2003
Heh, actually I don't... but I'm sure I could work it out (if I was in Manchester with my beloved linux box).

You know your Python-Talk project? Are you ever going to start it again?
Anyway onto something else, you know we started talking in <./>MiscChat</.> well how about we go and breath into it some new life?
Welcome to h2g2, Snowman!
OwlofDoom Posted Apr 14, 2003
I'll get round to it at some point... perhaps.
Actually there's a thread in the community soapbox about refreshing <./>MiscChat</.> so <./>Askh2g2</.> returns to the glory of intelligent debate that it once had. I suspect that it'll be very busy.
Heh...

You're talking about F55683?thread=264448 in relation to <./>MiscChat</.> aren't you? It doesn't stop us from starting the odd thread that would prehaps give people inspiration.
I'm going back to something we talked about previously: Seti
I was looking through the backlog of this conversation and found where you mentioned that 'watch head state.sah' command well I used it and came up with this instead 'watch -n 10 grep -A 1 cpu state.sah' which outputs the cpu line which is the total time in seconds and then the prog line. It then dawned on me that this was the very primitive beginnings of a seti monitor program.

OwlofDoom Posted Apr 14, 2003
Yeah, that's the one! I suppose you're right.
Hmm yeah your grep command is the beginnings of a monitor, but a slightly inefficient one, as it does deal with both file management and regexps, so is a bit of a cpu hog itself.

Snowman - For a story click my name you know you want to Posted Apr 14, 2003
Well I did say it was primitive and only the beginnings of a monitor. I suppose I want to do one because most of the seti monitors out there for linux seem to have discontinued or don't work with version 3.08. I run into the problem that I don't know that much but I do know I want it to be a shell script thingy.

OwlofDoom Posted Apr 15, 2003
I think that what you've got there is just fine, if you want a shell script thingy...
If you wrote it in zsh, you could probably draw some power from zsh's awesomeness, but don't come to me as I just use it for its tab completion...

Right I haven't replied in three days because I've been very busy playing FFX (and winning)
Anyway how's things?

OwlofDoom Posted Apr 19, 2003
Things are fine. Not online much as I'm at my parents' house with their horrid dialup connection and no computer of my own...
Enjoying FFX? I like V,VI,VII and I have IX in french somewhere but can't play it cos I don't speak French....

Enjoying FFX? Hmm, yep currently getting all the characters best weapons.
How comes you've got them in french?

When Nitina was living in France for a bit, and FFIX was a new game, she cottoned on to the fact that I really wanted a copy. When she came to visit me in England around my birthday she brought me a copy of FFIX as a pressie. Problem was, the version they sold in France was in French!
My brother has the English version... Nitina and I got it for him, aamof!

You'll never guess what I've been doing. I stopped today to get on with some work and discovered that one of the functions for my programming assignment that I haven't done yet won't work so that really annoyed me
Anyway what you been doing?
Welcome to h2g2, Snowman!
OwlofDoom Posted Apr 24, 2003
Awwww... sounds familiar, mind!
I've been doing nothing. Yes, you heard it. Nothing. When I really should be doing my project report... Ah well I'm back in Manchester now and Nitina comes back on Sat so maybe I'll get on with some work now...

I was playing FFX and getting afflicted by nasty status effects by two demonoliths which are tombstones with a skeletal something set in them and decided to summon a aeon because they are immune to status effects. So the intro movie for the aeon starts and guess what?

A nice playstation freeze? I remember having one of those in FFVII ... luckily it was a very easy part of the game so I quickly got back to it from where I last saved...

Eeeeeek! That must be a bit irritating! The power in my flat died for an hour or two the day before I went back to York. It's lucky it didn't do it afterwards, as I rely on being able to ssh into talon (my linux box) from York to do my work.

It keeps on happening and because it happens when ever it feels like it, its hard to track down the cause of the problem. One day it was the heater in my brother's tank but it couldn't have been that, so now one of the computers is under suspision so we only have it on when we need to use it for serious work.

Ah. The one time it happened here, it was the whole block of flats (there are over 160 flats in this building). I decided to go for a walk when it happened, but of course the lifts were out and the stairwells only had emergency lighting ... which is too dim to see where you're going. It's very eerie.
