Um, long and pointless story:

My brother and I used to write silly little games in the Games Factory, or QBasic or whatnot. We used to use the name "Software Owls (UK)" after the hilarious owl sprite in Klik & Play (Games Factory's predecessor). We even gave ourselves owl pseudonyms too... I was "Owl of Doom" (Doom being a place!) and my brother was "Owl from Beyond" (silly Magic: the Gathering joke). smiley - geek

When my mother first got AOHell (our first taste of the 'Internet' *cough*) all those years ago, we needed screen-names for ourselves. I chose "OwlofDoom", and the rest (apparently) is history. I chose OwlofDoom as my login name for everything - even Yahoo and MSN had no-one of that name! smiley - biggrin

How come you're Snowman, then?

Oh, I do have an unhealthy obsession with owls too...

I have about 15-20 stuffed toys of owls, and various other things too, including an owl snail-fork holder (seriously!), an owly-bank, an owl mouse-mat and (for this year) and owl calendar!

Aha you'd be right
It's annoying having snow as a surname when you're young because you get asked things like:
"Will it snow tomorrow smiley - snowman?" and this could be in the summer time smiley - erm

You're OK, I got all the rubbish about "Daley Mail" ... blah. And then when you're a bit older, it naturally becomes "Daley Sport". Oh ho ho ho ho ho.

I was about to say you were a conversation killer but it would appear you want people to talk about talkers. I have read A976557 so I may pop over to PeerReview

I was going to accuse you of killing the conversation again but luckily for you I've updated my personal space and I was wondering what you think of it.

I think it looks great, Snowman! And I get a namecheck too (not just a tag either, even though there is one there)...

There are a couple of typos in the paragraph about linux (I needn't spell them out to you, as you're blatantly a competent SubEd) which presumably come from being too key-happy (real expression?)...

From one of our other conversations, do you know how to rebuild a kernel?

Don't mind me, just moving this to the top of your conversations.

Oops. How I didn't notice that I don't know.

Yeah, I know how to rebuild a kernel. It depends on what distro you're using, of course. I have some instructions for debian, but it's part automated for debian users.

I know there's a generic kernel-building script developed by a spod I know at http://sty.nu/packages/kernel/kernbuild.sh , but I don't know how good it is for newbies.

I wasn't really asking how to rebuild a kernel I just wanted to know if you knew which you do.

Post 38

OwlofDoom

Ahaaaaaaaaa. Yes, I have a nice 2.4.20 on my system. But it's kind of important to build your own kernel, cos it's very unlikely that all your hardware will work otherwise...

Well I daren't rebuild my kernel because the modem will stop working because it's driver only works for my current kernel and I'd have to get new drivers and a new kernel may not be supported.
Anyway?

smiley - snowman

Post 40

OwlofDoom

Nah. You just make sure you get the right modem patch for your kernel before you build it. And 2.4.20 has support for most of the winmodem thingies built in...

Hmm. New conversation time? You seen that you get a plug on my PS now? smiley - winkeye
