Beguiled Mortal - rain delivered - distance no object Posted Jul 7, 2004
Hi Neal
with what I've heard of the weather down there, I think you should add flippers & an anchor to that list . I hope things improve by Saturday - just because I spend most of my weekends looking like a drowned rat doesn't mean I want to this time
. I've put my name down to bring crisps & lemonade - I think they should travel pretty well, especially if I get Pringles.
One benefit from walking is that I have something to sit on - a waterproof backed fleece which folds up small. It sits two, so you'd be welcome to share - if you'd be able to get back up again. We could plant it on an incline, if there is such a thing round there? Then slide away in the mud

Hi Lorraine.
I have been outsid eyet, but I believe there is a bit of a blow enough to cause concern to us tender Southerners
. I've heard there are trees down on the Underground causing problems. Obviously not on the actual 'Underground' but on the Overground section.
The forecast, at present, is 20c tomorrow with storms and wind of 6mph.
Friday is 17C, 9mph wind and overcast. Saturday is 21c overcast with winds at 5 mph, and sunday is wet, 18c and 8mph winds. I'll keep an eye.
Re: food. I already have 3 tubes of Pringles, as on special offer at 63p per packet. I shall also do a shop tomorrow or friday, for an assortment of items. Not feeding everyone, but "The Four Jousteteers" won't starve...oohh and invited HooToo-ers .
As for the offer of a portion of your rug, I appreciate it. However it would have to be a pretty decent incline for me to get back to my feet. Maybe I could then roll.... I shall sort something out.
Anyway, I am really looking forward to it, and shall have a small surprise for Jen, Claudia and yourself to identify us, and no nothing or .
Cath you later. Shall try broadband again tomorrow....

Hi Neal,
it looks as though I've just missed you tonight . How's the weather looking? I'd settle for Saturday's forecast . I've got my lifts to & from the station organised, & I'm trying to work out which bag to bring - it needs to be a Mary Poppins type, the amount of stuff I want to pack into it.
...maybe a nice subtle beach bag
.
I got your email, thanks - does that mean you've sorted out your Broadband? Are you happy with it?
Anyway, will speak (and see you!) soon

Hi Lorraine,
Well, I'm just about to get some supper, having just been doing my favourite job....Ironing.
Yes, I am now on Broadband. Took about 10 minutes. I was impressed with myself.
I have also been printing out Mayor Ken's London Plan....all 400 pages. It is to comnpete against the monstrosity that is being planned outside my flat.
I am 50% ready for Saturday. I am using my roller Trolley, and probably my Natural Trust Rucksack/chair.
Food shopping tomorrow, and then fingers crossed for Saturday's weather.
Must dash now, but shall drop by tomorrow. Sleep well....

Hi, Lorraine.
Well, is it shorts, t-shirt and sandals, or windcheater, thermals and waders? I reckon I shall just stick my head out of the window tomorrow and guess. Camera is loaded, getting the food tonight. Have plates, but not sure about cups/glasses. Taking my shooting stick to sit in!!
I think shorts and t-shirt may not be ideal, although none of my shoes are waterproof....and I'm not wearing my walking boots.
Looks like compromise time...Badge is done, and covered in plastic, so at least something will be waterproof...
I shall be leaving soon, so I'll meet you tomorrow. I shall be at King's X at 12:00 noon, by WHSmith. It is directly in front of the platforms. My suitcase trolley is burgundy, and I'll probably have a shoulder bag as well. Shall text colour co-ordination tomorrow, underground allowing...
Take care and stay well...

Hi Neal,
How's things? I'm sure you must be fully recovered by now It seems like I kept missing you round the threads last week, probably because I tended to be on early in the day. I've had a pretty eventful week, one way or another, still back to work tomorrow
, so I can have a hard earned rest
.
I did manage one long (and strenuous) walk last week,my legs are still a bit stiff. No deer, or squirrels to be seen (there aren't many trees in the Cheviots), but some birds....crows, blackbirds , wheatears,a peregrine falcon, and some yellow wagtails. Apart from the falcon, I imagine none of them are the least bit rare. Possibly the best bit though, was that it stayed dry the whole time - unbelievable!
Anyway, I'm off for now, speak soon

Hi Lorraine,
Yes normallity has returned, although I could still do witha good night's sleep. Seems all I have done is w*rk since the meet, which is not quite true. My cousin enjoyed her stay, and I enjoyed the break. Tomorrow I'm off to a local Park for a "Thai" weekend. Should be music, food and crafts, as well as plays. Hope it is good. It is the third year, and it's getting bigger.
Looks like I've ed redpeckham again. No pleasing some people. It's not the first time. Easy to ruffle her feathers.... still, better to behave myself, than get
ed I guess. Obviously doesn't likeothers enjoying themselves
.
Shall see what happens
Take care,

Hi Neal
I'm glad the weekend with your cousin went well . The Thai weekend sounds like fun - enjoy
I'm just beginning to realise how stuck I am now I've got no car . No walking, because it'd take most of the day to get anywhere by bus, and there's not much else I can do either, given my allergy to shops
. I'm hoping I can replace it quickly - there's a theatre company doing an open air Midsummer Night's Dream here in a couple of weeks time - again, tricky to get to without a car & too expensive by taxi.
whinge over!
Mmmm, I've just read what Redpackham posted (been away finding something to eat) she did seem a bit abrupt. Still, you're right, don't want to rock the apple cart

Just enough time to take up Rollerblading. You could do a Midsummer Night's Dream in the style of Starlight Express.
Maybe get one of those motorised scooters, with the little 2cylinder engine? There's a kid around my way who has got one. Sounds like a mosquito with a hangover
As for Red, she's always having a pop at someone, but woebtide anyone who upsets her.... Still I'm old enough and stupid enough to look after myself, as you know
Looking forward to next weekend, when I'm off to Dad's for the Glenn Miller Tribute. Shall keep you posted....
Stay smiling, and be good...

Hi Lorraine,
Just thought I'd drop a note to see how you are?
things fine here although it has been very hot and humid, with very heavy summer storms. Mass disruption for public transport, and a major outcry due to 600,000 tons of raw sewage being pumped into the Thames at Brentford killing hundreds of thousands of fish.
Anyway, I'm off on hols for a week now, so take care, and I'll drop by soon.

Hi Neal
It sounds like you're having the same kind of weather as us. I've never seen so much rain! But hot at the same time ...it's like having some lost monsoon arrive on your doorstep. I'm not sure if you're still on hols. I haven't been around very much because I've got more pc problems which are driving me crazy, but apart from that, things are great
If you have finished your holiday, then I hope you enjoyed it. If you're still in mid-hol, then have a few
s (is it the Reading folk festival, by the way?)
My daughter comes back from her holiday at the weekend. If I haven't managed to sort out the pc by then, I'm sure she'll get it fixed pretty fast. So with a bit of luck, I might get to be around a little more often.
Take care
Lorraine

Hi there,
Yes back from Sunny, stormy, steamy Broadstairs.
Really good time. Couple of good gigs. Group called Hoover the Dog, another called Asha, as well as Here be Dragons.
Worn out now, and could do with another holiday.
Still, only six weeks before I am off again.
Hope you are well. Just about to write to a mate in Boscastle, to see how he is. Only there last year where he took me round as a local. The place was so beautiful, and now totally wrecked. It looks as though the centre will have to be gutted, and they are all so friendly.....
Well, got to go. Good luck with the PC, and hope Grace had a good time.

Hi Neal,
I'm glad you had a good holiday, and the weather didn't spoil it . And another in six, no, five now, weeks?
I hope your friend in Boscastle's ok. I saw the pictures of it - what a mess! You don't expect that kind of thing to happen, do you?
Grace had a great time - she's come home without a tan, but she has a taste for cocktails (after having the grand total of one while she was away). So I'm trying to explain to her why I'm not going to buy the compleat cocktail maker (or some equivalent) . She gets her exam results this week & she's getting more& more nervous. I hope she gets the grades she wants, she worked very hard for them.
I went to see King Arthur last week. I thought it was good, but I struggled with the idea of Arthur as a Roman, and, living where I do, I found their version of Hadrian's wall a bit of a laugh. Have you seen it? What did you think?
Still got pc problems. I think it's something to do with a driver conflict. I'm sure Grace'll sort it out (she says with fingers crossed!)
Anyway, I'm off for a wander. Take care, I'll be back (hopefully)

Hi Lorraine.
Been ages since we've chatted. Been wary of using the PC here at w*rk for obvious reasons, and as I've just had my annual appraisal and my boss is going to ask for me to have a pay-rise, I reckon I can get away with the odd occasion on here.
How is life? Is your pc fixed. The word thraeds have been a little quiet, and the Telegram thread has almost stagnated.
Life is brisk here. I'm now on eight committees, as well as giggingwhich has just restarted after a long 10 week dry spell. The band have been asked to play for Mum's 70th, and they've very kindly offered to do it for free! What great sports.
I'm on hols w/b 18th Oct, so 3 weeks away. Off to Dad's for a few days...His suggestion. I reckon he wants a bonding type session, as we haven't always seen eye to eye, and I think, at reaching 70, he may be feeling a little "?". Not sure, but it'll be good for us to be out together with no one else around. Three days of hitting nature reserves..He's never done that.
Anyway hope you are well, and shall drop by for a chat soon, or maybe drop an e-mail at the weekend..
Take care...
Missing you...
