- I chose the name Achilles based on the character of that name from Douglas Hofstader's Godel, Escher, Bach. It occurs to me that he is not so clever; I hope this is not an unconscious self-criticism.
- Though its etymology may give you more insight into my character than I wish to admit ...
- Grytpype-Thynne is of course taken from the Goon Show character with that name. His first name is Hercules.
- To complete the circle, Agatha Christie's The Big Four contains a brother for Hercule Poirot, called Achille.
- .. Except Achille turned out to be completely invented; a fiction within a fiction. I think Hofstader would like that.
