hi skankyrich
-
you hit the nail on the head.
-
i was born in 1947. so it was the 50,s when i first had to work.
-
there was no, filling in forms, you walked to any firm nearby, or a friend or family memeber would get you at there job. i had to go in the textiles.
-
in the 30 years, as i went dissabled in 1994, and havent worked since.
-
ive had more jobs than a vagrants had hot dinners lol
-
i cant remember the jobs ive had,
weaving, warping, winding,
-
even made bombtails, 1 inch and 2 inch, and 81 mm shells.
-
opi there is a job out there waiting for you,the taxi was just a fun thing, but what about, if you can drive, something like an ambulance driver.even a school bus driver, not out of the question.lol
-
there arnt many that get a first job, and thats it for life, you might have 20, 40, in the next 5 or 10 years, then you could find the one for you tomz, its a toss of a coin, smiley - dragon jim

Skanky's right about us both coming from the same generation. smiley - smiley

Sometimes it's nice to think if I just had a crystal ball I could tell whether the future is going to be fine, particularly when I've just been unsuccessful at an interview. However, the present is going well at the mo except for the job issue and so for now I will keep plodding on doing voluntary work and applying for various things that take my fancy.

hi opi
-
to get certain types of jobs, you have to have the experiance, but its the old catch 22, if you cant get a job, then no experience.
-
in my days, if you where smart,or there abouts, grovelled, said you wouldnt let them down, willing to do overtime, and take a low wage.
-
you where 90% to get the job, after all, if you screwed up, you where out in no time.
-
now its qualifications, and screw up, a unfair dismissle or something. we got the cards end of week, and wht holiday pay there was, and that was that.
-
lose to many jobs, and no firm would touch you, have a prison record, and you where total screwed, except for poor paid stuff smiley - dragon jim

Jim, I am the same generation as you, when you could almost walk in to any job, and out again if it didn't suit you, though many people stayed for life if it suited.

You could ask if there was a vacancy, or apply and get an interview, and employers judged a person on their demeanour, their skills and qualifications, and their potential as part of the team or company.

Far better IMHO than the current way of picking candidates from a pile of application forms, and often missing the best person for a job by a mile!

The choice is endless these days or so it seems, so why is it so many people are in the wrong job, or just can't find the right one. Employers are missing out badly,
because no-one appears interested in filling the jobs, yet a direct appeal on radio in our area by a desperate employer found people who were 'just the job' and everyone was happy.

There's something wrong somewhere.

smiley - goodluck to those of you with a life in front of you. May the right stuff come along soon.

I'd say this though Opti: from the things I've seen you saying before, you do seem to have a good deal of attitude and motivation. The first break may seem hard to get, but don't let it demoralize you. It's just because it's the first.

Hmm it sounds like its the norm these days to have several jobs and be in and out of work. No job is for life anymore. I've found that getting experience in certain fields of work is easy but not others. The qualification thing can be an issue and it can hold you back from jobs, be in the wrong area and be an asset. There's so many qualifications it's difficult to know what to do. So I'd say experience out weighs these at times. I do think the handpicking of people can be frustrating too from what I hear its all about the way you've filled out an application form etc. A form is not enough you need to see the person before making a judgement but with so many people going for jobs its tough to pick the right ones. Yes I am motivated and determined King Bomba but I do tend to take things personally and get really hurt when I've not made it. It's difficult to carry on.

smiley - hug I don't know much about the old currency but I know that my parents (or at least my mum) had to give her wages to her parents. She has said that when I start earning I'm to give money to her but how can I when I've got to support my bf?
