Bel, my guess is that some people are envious- perhaps they have low-self esteem, perhaps they feel inadequate when not in positions of "power", perhaps they have other issues. It's not your problem to make them feel better about themselves by second-guessing yourself and all of the hard work you do. Leave your name alone so that people who need to reach out to you will know you're available. And don't let other people's hang-ups get you down.

I think that out there in the wider site there is too much faffing and pussyfooting around.
There are some posters that really should be told: it is NOT all about you and your flipping corner of the planet so put a sock in it.
And in the thread about the closing of the other thread there is a lot of tiptoeing around (understandably but it doesn't help) when a bit of plain speaking from all sides would be better. It is possible to offer a complaint or criticism without it being meant (or should not be taken) personally.
So here's another from me: the volunteer jobtitles are too confusing. There are too many similar ones (ACE, CE, GE???) and it would be better if they could be rejigged and renamed so that the title reflects the role. Rather like Heidegger: a hammer is a hammer because it hammers and all that.

There are positions in all orginazations that should be staffed by those most qualified, not those who can win a popularity contest. Sometimes that is the same person. Sometimes it isn't. I don't think anyone could honestly fault your job with . So be proud of your accomplishments during a difficult period and we'll all hope for the best for the future.

What would you call the Guide Editors, and the Community Editors, and the ACEs, Sho?
And on topic; we don't want the CEs to be nice, Bel. We want them to be nasty so WE can be nice.

You know this, Bel, so I'll say it for anybody who's reading this thread who doesn't know it:
We've put the jobs we're doing in our taglines, so people will know what we're doing. It's not bragging - why should anybody brag about doing a bit of extra work? - and it's not intended to render all pronouncements from these accounts official.
If it's official, somebody has to put on the Big Costume and POST IN CAPITAL LETTERS. (I made that last part up. )
I the Community Eds, because they are doing the hard jobs - talking to everybody and making sure h2g2 runs smoothly. Whew. I couldn't begin to cope. I'm happy all anybody's asking from me as a Guide Editor and Post Editor is a lot of GuideML and a little bit of writing.
So don't worry about the 'interim' business, Bel. Tomorrow a lot of new and returning Researchers will be glad to see who you are and ask you questions.
It's, er, like a name tag: 'Hi! Ask me about our Olympics push!'

Thanks all.
For me, instead of mulling over things on my own, it's a lot better to write them down and see what my friends have to say. just writing things down makes them a lot clearer already, if you know what I mean. I have to think about what I want to express and give it all a certain structure, so that already helps me to see things clearer.
Having a lot of different thoughts shared with me by friends helps me to feel at ease again. group

Hi Bel. I think you are a terrific addition to community as an editor! You seem to like personally all sorts of people that I would go out of my way to avoid. I think that if you are volunteering to be a Community Editor you need to realize that you have a responsibility to the whole community rather than you being a normal researcher. You like to be liked (as we all do) but you need to be aware that people may be unhappy with policies of Communities editors but DO NOT take this personally.

Thanks all.
The most recent upset I didn't take personally. It was addressed at the Community Editors (of which I am part), not at me, so all is fine.

What would you call the Guide Editors, and the Community Editors, and the ACEs, Sho?
Well - what do they do?
from the titles I'd say the Guide Editors edit the entries and are editors in some official capacity...
and I'd assume that the community editors are volunteer editors of entries taken from volunteers (possibly) among the researchers
and although I know what an ACE is - if I hadn't been greeted back then by Crescent who told me what an ACE is (isn't that Assistant Community Editor??) I wouldn't know what they did.
Now it could just be me being totally thick - but I'm really very unclear what hose jobs are and the names tell me nearly nothing.
on a totally unrelated note, how fantastic is it that the smilies work in Goo. I love you all!!!

Not sure this is anything to do with me Bel, but I think stating your title/position/role is perfectly sensible. I would like it in full rather than acronym though, since there is no limit on the length of tags. Bragging it is not, and anyone who knows you, knows that is not the case. It gives anyone unfamiliar with the site someone to approach in the first instance. I agree with other comments that you need to have a thick skin for any position which puts you in the public eye.

It's got nothing at all to do with you, Webbie.
I think that all ACEs explain what an ACE is in their welcome message. And I have no acronym fro the Community Editor anyway.

I've put that I'm a Guide Editor in my tagline because I think people should know I'm one of the team they should contact if they have Guide questions / problems / suggestions.
I'm not boasting. Don't worry, when I boast you'll be in no doubt.
And there's no need for "Interim". I'm a Guide Editor until the community decide they need a better one.

Sho, I was asking you what YOU'D call those folk, not what you would think they would do.
We need a smiley.
I agree, the names aren't great for the Community Eds and the ACEs. That's why I asked. I wasn't being defensive, though I might have been offensive.
The Aces are meeters and greeters, but that's (a) not all they do by a long shot and (b) too Walmarty. Robbie suggested Community Team, but that seems a bit Meh to me.
Community Co-ordinators (a bit schooly?)
Community Leaders (too much like a news item after a race riot)
Community Catalysts (like no-one else is?)
Community Office (too like the probation service)
There was a suggestion a while ago for Village Elders, but Community Elders sounds rather twee to me. But it's the one I dislike the least of these.
What do folk think?

Elderly Villagers maybe?
I like ACEs, not the full title maybe but the acronym maybe we could find pleasing acronyms for all the other posts and just make the words fit them.
Moderators could become GUILTY - Guide Users Inspecting Locals Tempting Yikesing.
Guide Editors could become ELDERS - Editorial Lackies Deciding Entries Readers See.
Gurus could become FIXERS - Fellows Intent on Xtracting Errors Readers Spot.
Okay - don't say I didn't contribute.
