Nobody said that the sort of entries you like to write doesn't have a place. I've always found that h2g2 is a place for everything as long as it is well written and the facts are correct.

MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship.

Thanks, Bel. I'm just not up to the 'clever' stuff. I leave that to others

I'll stick to what I know. Entries I like and planning events... smiley - winkeye

That's perfectly fine. I don't plan events, and I wouldn't say I've written 'clever' stuff.

Gnomon - time to move on

As someone already said, all the easy subjects are already in the Guide, but often in rather poor form. The process for updating is a complicated one because the Eds decided long ago that updates should not be given a sub-editor. This means that you have to be effectively a sub-editor yourself before you can attempt an update.

I think that should change in the new hootoo. If we have enough sub-editors, then there's no reason why we can't put an update through Peer Review, then pass it on to a sub-editor in the same way as a normal entry in Peer Review. This may encourage newbies to start by updating existing entries, and then to expand their abilities by tackling a full entry later.

Gnomon - time to move on

Somebody asked how many Edited Entries there are. Officially there are 10,079. I suspect it is actually slightly less than that, possibly about 10,050. So we passed the 10,000 mark with a big announcement. The next real milestone would be 11,000, or 15,000. It'll take a while to reach that.

Five a day is obviously unreachable at the moment, but I've noticed when we were churning out five a day, they weren't anything like the standard of the present ones. One good entry a day would be very respectable.

I also hear that since the BBC has decreased the new Entries each day our reader/visitor numbers have fallen significantly. It is important to refresh the FP, so we should work our hardest to achieve something new for our visitors each day.

Sorry, was a little busy editing and preparing the articles for the next smiley - thepost.

Lanza, I only go to the FP once every Monday. That's it. It was a very bad move not to update it more often than once a week, and only put ONE new entry/Monday on it for months.

Malabarista - now with added pony

We really should stagger the new content; at the moment, everything (EGEs, The Post, QotW, etc.) appears on a Monday.

Well, yes. It's because the ed(s) didn't (don't) have the time to alter the FPs more often than once a week. It's why the Post had to change the publishing day from Thursdays back to Mondays.

Are the Scavengers still active, or the Flea Market? It's been several months since I've been around on a regular basis so I'm not sure. But when I was writing regularly I know I nabbed several from the depths of the flea market, and found inspiration there for some of my own entries as well.

I have to admit that I only very sporadically have a look at what is in PR. There are so many other things that keep me busy, and I want to keep track of conversations, too.

The Flea Market is another area that could do with a huge Spring Clean. It's full of stuff that could do with being finished off. As well as that I think that some of the Entries there have already been scavenged and so need removing from the list.

The beauty about barlesque is that you immediately see what's in PR if you *do* bother to go to the FP.

But due to a bug, you also see about 1,000 entries that were removed from Peer Review long ago.

Bel, you don't need to feel guilty about not going into Peer Review, when you're doing the job of editing the Post.

It's not that I feel guilty, but there are aspects of h2g2 I regret I don't have the energy to follow any more.
