Now this can be a bit difficult, since the new skin doesn't accept a lot of smileys and no &, either. At least not as stand-alone ampersand.
I guess we'll find lots more things that don't work yet.
I'm not too worried about the loss of the conversation pop-up, I hardly ever used it, but I see that it is a loss for those who used it a lot.
The conversation list is irritating, to say the least.
It doesn't bring you back to where you stopped reading in a thread, but brings you to the first post. That means, it is of no use to post a bookmark, because you'll have to search anyway. Not good. I won't be able to follow fast moving conversations like the atelier any more. I hope they'll fix that. If it would at least bring us back to our last post (as it did before Jim Lynn gave us the possibility to go directly to where we last read), that would be helpful.
I won't go and keep notes of the page number I last read.
My PS is a mess, but I don't dare to edit it (or attempt to) for fear that
a) it would be blocked due to unaccepted characters
and
b) I'll lose my join-up date.

To set up the next h2g2 Post may prove to be impossible. We'll see.

Oh, OK, although the ampersand shows as & in preview, it shows as a proper & when posted. Now there is something.

I still just see a piece of code saying & and weird stuff when someone uses an apostrophe.

Bel, I have edited my PS since the all-clear and the creation date has not changed, so that seems to be fixed. Unfortunately mine still says I joined 2 days ago though...

You must be looking at it from the old version then.

Oh, another thing that is irritating about the conversation list: It says : last posted x minutes ago last reply x minutes ago - even though the post was made by yourself and there was no reply.
You have to click on 'Conversations' and you'll see a list, and those with new posts to it will be marked, and it will tell you how mnay new posts there are. Not that you can go to the new posts, mind.

I really hope they'll make the smileys work soon.
I'll wait with editing my PS until it is really safe.

I'll stick to Brunel as long as there is no 'xx new posts' feature. Or until Brunel is no more

I hope the redirect won't happen too soon, because then we should be able to create the next using the fully functional skin.

I was over in the new site, trying to post to your journal, Bel. But the filter wouldn't let me. It insisted I had said something offensive. This is what I said:

The only drawback I see so far is the conversation problem.

The only other problem I see isn't really a problem. It's just something that you, Hypatia, Mala and I will have to live with.

As far as I could tell, we and lils atelier had the only threads that routinely showed up on the front page. Now, of course, that highlight exists only for the Ask threads.

And since I am not going to be posting my journal come-ons on Ask, I guess I can say goodbye to the front page. I am sure it's no loss to anybody but me - and it was merely a private sort of satisfaction - but it was something I noticed.

I am going to write like Data for a while, so the horrible code salad does not show up on the other skins.

Since the Post looked so cool this time, I think we may be okay for next week.

But the latest posts made appear on the Front Page (just scroll down). And very prominent they are, too. With a large avatar. So don't worry, your journals will feature there whenever somebody posts to them.
Oh, last time I posted the button said 'save'. Now it says 'Post Message'. Maybe it says 'Save' if you have previewed it first? Must pay attention next time I preview.

Bel, I have tried to post to this journal in the new skin, but it won't let me. So I'm back in alabaster.

Your journal opened when I clicked last reply, but when I typed what is in parentheses above I got a message that a word in the message was forbidden or blocked or whatever the message says.

also, do we have to sign in over and over with each attempt to post? I was in the new skin for maybe 5 minutes and was asked to sign in 3 times.

That's what happened to me, too, Hyp. I think there's a wee glitch somewhere.

And thanks, Bel - that does make sense. Then the FP is more likely to draw people into active conversations, and not less. That's . (And was really what I was after, even if I sounded conceited saying it.)

Oh, that hasn't happened to me, thank goodness. I have both versions open in tabs, so I can jump forth and back - whatever is more convenient.

Apparently, if there was a new post and you click on 'last reply' you are now brought to the new post. I have yet to find out what happens if there were more than one new posts.
I'm determined to try the new version, because only then can I report bugs. I need to learn quickly, because of the Post.

It looks like patience is going to have to be the word of the day. I just hope it does all get fixed. I intend to stay in alabaster as long s they'll let us.

I am back in Brunel. I tried to keep another window open with the new site, but it froze and crashed my browser.

Oh, I'll stay in barlesque for a while. Will be interesting to see when it will crash.
But lil isn't here, so it could be a while.

I just (briefly) tried the GuideML editor in 'Create a new entry'. It's a disaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaster!!!!!!!!! Every new tag (bold, italic, header etc) that you add using the editor buttons goes to the end of the document, irrespective of where your cursor is positioned. So for instance if you highlight a word and click the button, you get a new pair if tags at the end of the document, not around the word you selected.

Don't get me started on links...

That was already in Brunel. As a consequence, I never used the buttons to add the tags.

It worked in brunel and IE, but the same happened in brunel and firefox.
I didn't use that often, but it is still handy for http links and lists: just Cut from the bottom once you've finished, then insert in the respective space you want to have it.
