Well, that's annoying for people who edit in the parser. Why have the feature if it doesn't work?
I never knew you could do that, anyway - I write GuideML in a Word program and then copy/paste the whole text in, due to reading problems.

Yes, the problem certainly didn't exist under Brunel/IE

I've just found out that you can't access your cancelled entries in barlesque. I uncancelled all of mine for the time being, so I can take copies.

Methinks the Eds should take the new site offline until the major faults have been addressed. Your point about cancelled entries being inaccessible is very serious. The conversation threads are being littered with ' making them difficult to read - and they will be permanent, still there after (if?) the bugs are fixed.
I'm staying in Brunel until it works

I agree (well, I'll be sticking to alabaster, not brunel).
I suggest people use the new system for testing only (ie to create test Entries, journals and conversations and find all the bugs)

I agree. We all need to do some testing, or else we won't know what works and what doesn't work.

Didn't we do that two months ago? Left them a long list of what doesn't work (so far as we were able - not all the functionality was there)...not much of it seems to have been acted on.

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Jan 21, 2011
We were only able to test features that didn't require posting or editing.
And for some of the things we reported, we were told "There'll be lots of other new functionality which will only be visible when the new site goes live".

Totally agree about the testing, but can we either not post to conversation threads using NHT, or if we do, not include smileys, apostrophes and any other characters that are known not to work.

Oh dear. I have had a good look at the new site and it seems pretty rubbishy to me.
Unfortunately, I have neither the time nor the energy to assist in building a noble society. So I'll just sit on the sidelines and heckle from time to time.

Frankly, it looks like it's been released untested, for whatever reason. We tested what we could under RO beta, but obviously couldn't test what wasn't available then. Obvious problems that have been found this week should have been found by proper testing before release. A volume test wouldn't have gone amiss, either.

I've been biting my lip very hard over this, RF. Now you've broken cover, I think I'd like to know exatly what the BBC's test strategy has been on this. There are many problems which would have been identified in the simplest of regression tests, for example.
My biggest worry is the baseline design. What exactly are we testing against? What functionality has been designed to feature in the new system? Otherwise, we might simply be highlighting known design changes, and these should have been agreed with us up front.

I'm getting a little tired, so I've reverted back to the fully operational skin (ie brunel) for now.
Key: Complain about this post
