Well I've come very late to this business, I don't know the situation and I can't in all honesty say I know either of the major participants that well, but it seems a shame that anyone on the site feels so hounded that they need to abandon the situation altogether. I wonder if this raises questions as to whether or not some sort of grievance process needs to be put in place so that any researcher who feels unduly harassed can take their case to the italics?

Anyone who feels harassed should report one of the posts to the moderators. The moderators will probably reject the claim because they base their judgement on one posting in isolation, but the harassed person should then reply to the moderation e-mail, which will automatically be referred to the editors for consideration.

That's it exactly. Make proper use of the complaints system. The eds can't do anything without having a 'history'. It has to go through the official channels, just as Gnomon said.

Wow! I've not had much time to visit H2 lately, so am just hearing the rotten news.
One of my first H2 friends slipped away a few years ago, and hasn't been back saying sort of the same thing -- there was a bad vibe around.
Thankfully, I know how to find her elsewhere, but she was a budding fiction writer, and some of her more creative posts were magnificent. It was a real loss.
I do hope comes back. She's so much fun.
