h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

For all of you who haven't done so yet: voting for the <./>ThePost</.> Christmas Competition is still open till 14th January (well, it says so in the editorial, so it must be true). Please, all of you who have read the submissions, just click on the link at the bottom of your favourite in each of the categories. Any idea who'll count the votes, lil? Guess that will be EMR or Rich, eh? They'll be sooo grateful if this journal has any effect.

I'Ve just read a few of the entries and some are really good, even the few that are really good are good ... but, I really wanted to say that it is a shame that we (you) have to vote by e-mail ... I can't send e-mail from my laptop (used 90% of the time).

Can't we vote by clicking on Reply?

I think that should be possible, can't see why not. The Post Team is subscribed to all the entries anyway.
Just don't forget: one vote only for each category.

Thanks for the reminder Bel .... I can't use the email link anyway, so I may do it that way or see if I can remember who to email the old fashioned way.


Have you been inundated with votes then.

The Post account is subscribed to a huge number of entries and journals, which is why we set up the voting by email in the first place. All the emails have a relevant subject to make it easy to count votes, rather than us spending ages wandering around the entrants just in case anyone has happened to vote on them.

I know, Rich, but if people can't email, don't you think we can make an exception?

For future reference, there are a lot of free poll thingies out there on the web that just need a little hosting.

h2g2's got the only forum I know that hasn't got this stuff built in!

Perhaps it has to do with having a free vote ... secret ballot and all that ... "Oh look ... that person voted for someone else!" being all sulky!

If you're happy to check the submissions and submit votes on their behalf, I don't see that it's a problem. But if we'd have had the time to check the conversation list or the submissions for votes left on them, there would have been no point having the email links all set up. It just creates extra work, and I don't see why people can't just email the Post address if they have a problem with the link.
