He's usually quite generous, when we celebrated a colleague's and my 10th anniversary, he invited us all out, we had a guided tour through castle Rheinfels, then and there, then on to Schloss Johannisberg for dinner, plus a voucher (open) for a concert/theatre or whatever of my choice.

Yes, but he doesn't pay me for my work.

Well, even if it's a third of the costs for a flight it will help. Pity he's the only one who'll indirectly give me money for my birthday.

I guess I work for too big a company for that, though my boss did give me a little something for one of many Hallmark holidays this last year. I just get an annual bonus to my salary.

I would love to go to London again, but I don't think I will ever make it to one of the meets- do they always have them in pubs?

The pubs are just for the evening. MMF usually organises an afternoon event - pub-free.
