Yes. And I've indeed found an opportunity to link to one of your 'Romans in Britain' entries in my latest recommended entry.

I can tell from that entry, it's great to see!
By the way, they said on QI last night that the pilgrims did have turkeys, but they brought them with them from England!
Also, I remember when I had to go to church occasionally with Guides. At harvest festival, I believe people used to bring in food (tins and the like) which I think were given to homeless shelters and that kind of thing.
Good entry, very interesting as ever.

Thanks, Elentari. I do mention the food/people in need thing:
>>In addition to the church services, many schools throughout England celebrate the Harvest Festival, bringing food from home, which is given to people in need after having been on display during the service.

Hmm, that sounds more sensible than making the mail carrier pick up the food donations, which is mostly how it's done here. I always feel sorry for my mailman, having to heft all those cans of soup and jars of peanut butter.
Re. the concert - Yes, my annual engagement at the Methodist church over in the rich part of town. Two Christmas Eve services with rather nice music, too. They have little ledges for votives all along behind the cross at the front of the church, and turn the lights out for the last carol ("Stille, Nacht") so that it's only candle light. Very pretty. It's pleasant, easy work -- though it takes all night -- and good pay. In between services, sometimes I get an invitation to dinner at one of the musician's houses. It's one of my favorite things to do all year.
