Btw, I've just found this here: http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/Mosby_factsheets/cataracts.html
So it looks as if hstwrd was right, you can get cataracts through UV light

I had the diabetes one. 1997 I was first lasered treatment for the retinapathy and about year after that first signs of cataracs started to show.
one more thing young people (like me) who have cataracs will go faster bad, then older people.
like skin cancer the "uv cataracs" might develope if you are too much in sun.
watch you local uv warnings!

Red hair and sunbathing never mix so i've never sunbathed much either B'el. Just as well with British summers . Did go to Gran Canaria once and got very badly burned as a teenager (didn't have my mum there to slap on the lotion!)

I've never had a real sunburn in my life, so the risk of getting skin hamster ( I that, Gwennie) is considerably low. But although I did my best to protect my boys, bboth of them have had a few bad sun burns, because they forgot to aooly sunlotion

I once heard that if you have more than a certain number of moles on the skin, you are at more risk for skin cancer. (I forget how many. Seems like 21 or so. ) Anyway, I started counting spots and gave up after getting from finger tips to elbow! I'm going to ignore that one, I think. My family is spotted like calico. One skin doctor told my aunt,"you sure do grow things."

Sadly, with along with ozone depletion comes an increased risk of damage to skin and eyes, even in the Northern Hemisphere. I have read and heard that s and s recommend that the pages being read should be in the shade because of reflected light, even if the reader is sporting .
I had a malignant melanoma removed several years ago and am no longer allowed to expose my skin to direct sunlight. Told you I was a !

You've een lucky then that it was discovered at an early stage. My friend who had been diagnosed with reast cancer, has had her op, and was lucky, because the cancer hadn't spread yet You can imagine that I went for a check - I usually am a it forgetful when it comes to those annual check-ups.

I'm so glad your friend is okay B'Elana.
I am fortunate that my skin hamster hasn't returned.
My mammogram was done a few months ago. Ouch! Why do they have to squash everything so much? It's enough to make one want to down the hospital corridors half nekkid!

Yes, I know - I had a mammogram done in April, and it hurt so much that I cried. So when my gynaecologist suggested that I'd have another one in March next year, I asked him if it was really necessary. He said we could do a sonogram, which was a relief

I'm sure some man invented that mamogram machine. I think some sensitive part of him should be put in one and squashed...
