Day Three - 30.04.03 to the rest of you :-)

smiley - biggrinWell I've updated my personal space, it's all in GuideML and everything (and although I am a programmer, my HTML knowledge is zip, so I am impressed!)

Great day at work, got loads done, everything I have recently released to my users to test appears to be working, and I have managed to help out a colleague with something that was making his brain hurt. It's all good smiley - smiley

smiley - teaGot accepted into the Cult of Dentonites today (as you can tell from the change of nickname and information on the introduction. Very pleased about that, feels like a spiritual home to me. Anyone who knows me well will tell you that my drink of choice is tea (although a long vodka sometimes goes down well also!

I am getting used to writing this every day now, and in fact, as you can see, am actually just posting into it when I feel like a typing warble. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing to inflict upon the universe, but I am enjoying it, and as a meglamanical despot - who cares what the rest of the universe thinks anyway! smiley - yikes

To the couple of people who have found this page and touched base, nice to hear from you - any input on my rubbish that appears to be accumulating at a ridiculous rate, please let me know. smiley - whistle

To everyone else who hasn't left a message - I didn't want to hear from you anyway smiley - nahnah, not really, make a lady feel wanted will ya?

I'm probably going to write my first piece for submission to the full guide at some point soon, any suggestions on topics would be gratefully received, I am a fount of completely useless knowledge. In fact, since a lot of what I have written here has been about SAP and programming for SAP, I think that might be my first article (talk about a boring old woman... I have no life! smiley - cry)

Anyway, hang around, drop a note, or just have a wander - up to you really, but remember, if you are making a cup of tea, the first rule is always use boiling water - not just hot - boiling, otherwise it tastes like a liquid form of fetid dingos kidneys! smiley - biggrin

Day Two (29.04.03)

Okay, okay, I know this is posted on the 30th! smiley - biggrin

smiley - headhurts It's been an interesting couple of days, I know I said I go to the gym six times a week, well so far this week I have missed two days (and the guilt is setting in! smiley - flustered

Did manage to do some yoga last night, and some meditation practise though - so I am not completely useless.

To be honest though, it's a combination of the weather and work that is preventing me from keeping up with my normal good habits. Glasgow at the moment doesn't seem to know what season it is, one minute it is raining and overcast the next moment there is brilliant sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. (Makes a truism of the saying "If you don't like the weather in Glasgow, wait a minute" I suppose. smiley - ok)

Hopefully work won't be as intense today as it was yesterday, I am a computer programmer, I specialise in a system known as SAP. Anyone who has experienced SAP as more than the adverts on TV knows that this is a really BIG system which allows companies to use it for all of their system needs (stock control, purchasing, sales, HR management, Finance etc.). My experience centres mainly on the Logistical elements of the system (probably because I was once a Purchasing Clerk at a big company, and understand terms like MRP and FIFO), however, most of the work we have at the moment is for the Human Resources module. In most computer systems this wouldn't be a problem, as code is code no matter what it is supposed to be doing. However, in SAP, it's a different challenge. The HR module is completely different to everything else, the type of code used is similar - but not identical to what is being used elsewhere and the structure of the database for HR is different. Therefore yesterday was a real slog - trying to find out what the code was supposed to be doing, when I wasn't entirely sure what it meant when I read it, made changing it to work as the User Department required very difficult! smiley - erm

However, I did manage to get done what needed to be done - so it's not all bad. smiley - biggrin

Bring on the day... let's see what you have in store for me this time! smiley - bigeyes

New day, new start!

Well I joined H2G2 today, and now I am writing my first journal entry. I am not really sure what to put in this 'open diary', not clear exactly how personal I am comfortable with it being.

Being as cyberspace is so big I don't imagine many people are ever going to read it though, so that should mean that I can write what I want, and the chances of anyone I know reading it are fairly slim. On the other hand, nearly everyone I know is a total tech-head, and if I even mention this site they will look for me on it.

There's been a lot of 'new starts' in my life recently, not massive, tumultuous ones, but starts nontheless.

Two months ago I started a diet (I've lost a stone and a half), I also started going to the gym, which for smoking, drinking, couch potato me was a real endevour! I have been going six days a week ever since - remarkably I actually enjoy it.

The best bit has been doing a yoga class once a week. Our yoga instructor is also doing meditation exercises with us, which lead me to do some research into meditation myself. I now practise meditation for 20 minutes each day. I am APPALLINGLY bad at it, for every 20 minutes practise, I think I reach focus for about 2 if I am lucky. However, I am sleeping better than I have in years, my performance at work has improved and nearly everyone I know says I seem much more 'centered' and present than I used to. So, presumably I am achieving something.

This is something of a rambling entry, probably the shape of things to come.. I tend to think things faster than I can communicate them to other people (either by talking/typing/writing them down). If you have read it, hope I didn't bore you. Maybe I will do something exciting tomorrow.
