but that was years ago, when I was a reprehensible surance wallah who kept pointing out the less favourable caluses in the small print....

Not really - I made that one up out of my own head
I spent a lot of time translating the technical dictionary to clients so they could make an informed choice.
I often wonder why I was never promoted
