Prehaps less so with the NPC stats for random encounters / minor NPC's... do you need the str etc for all but the important NPC's though Acid....

and with stats if you want to import game rules you could also put an external website link to the character sheet stored online at the company websites....

hell a mini database of character sheet locations would be fine with me....

don't want to really get into the whole how I am actully going to do it, that is something that has to be my own work. I just want the features.


My thoughts for the Character sheet is that no such thing actully exists. It would be generated on the fly from the places that hold the general sort of health stats, then look up the one abot weapons and stick that in.

Player characters would have to be created every time at the start of a new game. until i arbitarly decide other wise and give a way to say this and that. In a way what i was thinking of may come under what you mean by a thread.


i would have a table of data that holds the users info on which cahracters they own and which game that character is playing in. which would need created everytime a new game is created.

the whole Name of NPC and its health, was that once you have introduced it can track its hp easyily by reducing the value.

btw the perpose of my project is create a "content management system"

so the point of it is for the system to be able to handle vary types of data all related to roleplaying.

I was going into implementation to try and give some idea of how it would look and work. It's kinda hard to do without being in the same room and being able to chat and draw stuff. I dunno if you read that bit (since you didn't want ideas on implementation) but I basically said that one solution would be to have the DM create a format for the character sheet each game. I'm not sure I understand exactly what your proposing for character sheets right now.

two years! i wish! i have less than a whole year for it. AH takes a year, meaning if you include exams it takes less than a year. I have till christmas to have it done. Then christmas to february is polishing it off.

Ouch mate - this is a bit big for a generic online RP system. Personally I would reccomend you choose a system and create an online RP system for it. Doing too many could eat up to much time...

Acid - I own a copy of orig MERP boxset... amongst many others...

WIRO if you are trying to do a generic one I own myself over 10 different systems, use 3 that are not published (my own and a friend who has designed 2), and own about 3 editions of 1 system that has gone through so many re-writes and revamps that only the core details are the same...

My advice would be either desing your own designed for a specific online game purpose or too adapt a current one for online use...

On the first idea you would have more freedom to create what you can and need for it while on the second idea you have the background work done and it will be just streamlining / modifying for online use....

I said before I think you masochistic for choosing this project and that was when I thought you had upwards of a year to do it. Flamestrikes right, it's going to be tight to meet that deadline. Still if you think it can be done it's got to be worth some heavy marks.

I am a whole lot calmer with the whole thing now. I have shown him the proposal, which he said is worth the whole 4 out of 4. most marks are allocated to the planing stages anyway ...


It is a large project, however looking at my proposal,


*notices heavey rain blowing in his window. gets on shoes tries to get out door. gets keys, unlocks door sprints into garden recoveres as much washing as possiblem, sprintes inside.*

now that i have recovered most of the washing, still some towels outside couple of school shirts and a bed sheet (MY BED SHEET!). will elave them they allready soaked, the little stuff was solvaged without becomeing to wet.


any way back to where i was. what is included in my proposal is all that i actully need to achieve, and i can see ways to achieve that, yes it will be effort but its not that hard. the whole point of hte excersise is to take a task that as it stands looks hard, but to break it into peices that slot together and achieve the end result.


Something i should point out at this stage is that once i have created the structure i don't need to create all the code under my own steam. what i can do is go to the various code libaries that are online, get small chunks of code for each bit and peice them together.


I can't post my proposal to tell you what i am actully doing now, or tell you how I am actully intending to achieve this, as i have to do the project indepentantly.

don't want to risk my grade by having it appear anywhere before I have submitted it.

Still have a long way to go before I have a working system anyway. have mre detailed specifications and things to to write first.

then i have to design it. then write up 3 ideas for implementing it (though i already know how i intend to, idea waschosen cos it will fit with how i want to do the implementation)

then will have a workign version before i write my evaluation. so many things.


just a little note to mabe clear confusion. I am not making a generic system that will attmept to have stats that will have will with most games. or making a list of stats for differnt types.


the DM will decide exactly what stats in the game he wants to have then create that specifically for that game. so it could in therory be differnt for absolutley everygame.

I am currently in the process of washing my clothes. I have 2 washing lines, a drying rack and every radiator in the house to help. I do this twice a year and the current run has taken 3 days and counting. And the rain has just soaked 4 washes worth because I have my curtains closed and didn't hear it. If only I'd checked this thread sooner!

On the plus side bedsheet remains dry.

On a side note I once (feels like a long time ago) wrote a system for recording and managing data. I couldn't ask anyone for help. However what I could do, and the teacher made this crystal clear, was design a system for recording data in my free time. And why not design a system for managing data in my free time as well? And I could have as much help as I liked on these personal projects.

I didn't do it in the end - can't say I wasn't tempted, but if it feels like cheating it probably is. Best of luck to you
