Why don't I tell you about my first guide experience?

Near the end of 1999, I logged into h2g2 for the first time. However, I totally failed to "get it." I played around a bit, looked up the entries on towels, earth, that kind of thing. And... I just didn't "get it."

(Audible moan from h2g2 regulars) "How could you not 'get it?' Are you thick or something?" they collectively ask.

To which I rebut, "But, there was no Goo interface!"

And we all lived happily ever after.

But, the program will take me 7.5 million years to run.

Ode to Floyd

My little friend on a small satellite, Play tag, run away, tell stories of old. A canteen, a flask and a laser gun, Avoiding the tides, the grues and the blight. This robot who has a true heart of gold, Who kept my oil can, and was lots of fun. I searched for food, not a can of brown protein, I got a friend, and elevator access. You ran away, but you never were gone. And now I've left you, forsaken, alone. I departed fast, but you're not forgotten. On my return, we'll run like the lobos, But today, it's Leather Goddess of Phobos.

I acquiesce, more or less my sentence stress will dispossess. I have no hope to see a printing press, not with success. And with that I end a short-lived career as a poet, and the world is made a better place.

What can you say you have done for the world lately?

Life? Don't talk to me about life.

Well, since you're obviously some kind of masochist, I might as well tell you my life story...

In the beginning, there was dark. And then I turned on the lights, stood up, put on my robe, opened the pocket and took some analgesic, so the room would stop spinning so much. Okay, okay, so that's the beginning to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy text adventure. It's still a whole lot more interesting than my life. So, I'll keep this quick:

1970's Born 1980's In School: Most of this happened in Germany, but there was a good bit at the end which took place in the States. www.military-brats.com 1990's More School, Some Work: Still stateside. 2000's Sorry, "Two thousands" just doesn't sound right. I'll need to try this one again. 2000's More Work. Work, work, (h2g2), work. Later Death and Taxation.

Like I said at the beginning, "Not much that's news." That about sums it up. Hope you liked it, and feel free to ask me questions on any parts you find confusing, I know I went a bit fast.

We're holding out for extremely rich.

Has anybody else noticed that H2G2 is still working? Even the glimpses I got of the Wonder Book of Useless Knowledge didn't get me ready for this!
