This week's title is It's a Big, Wide, Wonderful World. Left to right: A mural showing a woman in Fifties costume kissing Rene Magritte's Invisible Bowler-Hatted Man, over a view under a bridge of a canal in Austria, sun on the horizon in western Pennsylvania, a river in late winter, another river this one tidal with mudflats, French sewer works that have disturbed a Ciel-et-Terre hopscotch board, a bald eagle in a tree, and two swans viewed from overhead. Floating images from upper left: an exotic frog from South Africa, a black-and-white cat with yellow eyes from England, a common wall lizard from Austria, and a pert squirrel looking officiously at us from the neighbourhood of Liverpool.

It's spring now, the calendar says so. So do the birds outside my window. For h2g2's wildlife photographers, it's spring because there are . . .

Toads! Frogs! Lizards!

Believe it or not, they've all been out critter-spotting. So this is a reptiles-and-amphibians issue. (I threw in some from Willem even though it's autumn down there.) Go watch all the shenanigans with these interesting creatures. SashaQ's pond photo is the most amazing thing I've seen yet. Paigetheoracle has some adults-only stuff, and Tavaron found a magnificent lizard. You'll appreciate.

We have other things to look at, as well: scenery. A bald eagle. Galaxy Babe's new kittycat. Swans.

There are stories. Little ones from me. A photoessay by Tavaron. A couple of comics that are getting entirely too philosophical. Cinema from Awix. Jokes and seriousness and invitations to guess and comment. Please don't let the site's current mood deter you – yes, it's acting as weird as Eddie the Shipboard Computer, which I hope doesn't mean we're being pursued by Magrathean rockets, the tech people are working on it, but in the meantime, if you want to know who's saying what try the link here and don't stop talking. I swear h2g2 is semi-sentient. If you can hear us, we love you.

Have a good week. Catch some rays if the sun's shining. And send more Stuff.

STRAY THOUGHTS

THE LURE OF THE EXOTIC

RIP Waffelhaus

Magritte tribute mural that used to hang on a wall in Hooverville, by DG. The house burned down, sadly. At least, DG is sad about it. Bluebottle is not sad about it because it wasn't on the Isle of Wight.

NATURAL BEAUTY

Vienna to Wiener Neustadt
Canal by Tavaron.

    Any resemblance between this comic
and current events is probably the fault
    of the Holy Spirit.
