I've only just seen that if you click on my name ( in a comment) my email addy is shown. I'm really not too sure I want that, can you remove it ?

Um, I think I'd have to delete your entire comment, B'Elana, but you could always post it again (though it would end up out of sequence). I'm actually not sure why some comments show up with 'clickable' names (to email addresses) and others don't.

Anyone else know?

Then go ahead and delete them, I think there are only two of them anyway - one for GB and her dad, and one as a reply to GB for my photo. So if I would repost them, I could leave out my e-mail addy ?

I think when you go to leave a comment you have to sign in with your name (or nickname), email address, etc. But I think most of that is optional. Since I've only ever left comments as a Fotki member I get to skip that bit, so I don't know for sure how it works.

For the purposes of this photo album I ask that people always leave their name (I will delete any 'anonymous' comments) but they don't need to leave an email address.

Ok, I wasn't sure that the email was optional, but then, it probably should be. (What if people don't have any ? )

On the last comments page more than half the people just left their name but not an email address. I'll ask Noggin to try and leave a comment tomorrow from his computer so I can see the page that non-Fotki members see - too late to do it now . . .

Okay, got it figured out. Noggin sent a 'test comment' this morning from his computer and it asked him for Name, E-mail address and 'Home page' (whatever that is). Apparently none of them are required (by Fotki) in order to send in a comment, as I have received 'anonymous' comments before. But it is required (by me) that a name be provided - anonymous comments will be deleted.

So, if you include your email address when you leave a comment then it will turn up if people click on your name.

If you just leave your name, then it isn't 'clickable'.

Still don't know what 'Home page' means. Because when you click on the photos of other Fotki members (in the comments section) it brings you to their Fotki home pages. Hmmm, seems like we can all ignore that last one . . .

Maybe if you have a website, you can enter the URL so other people can visit you?

I suspect you can enter the url of your h2g2 Personal Space.

Yeah, I reckon the 'Home space' option is for stuff like websites, blogs, etc.

anhaga, you are a Fotki member, yet your comments don't show up with a link to your Fotki home page. Neither do zoomer's. Is this because you are logged out of Fotki when you post comments?

Have I posted comments?

I expect if I have posted any, they've been posted when I've been logged out (I very rarely log in).

Come to think of it, you probably haven't posted any comments, anhaga - oops!

But zoomer has, and it must be when he's logged out as they just show up with his name, not a link to his Fotki page.

I stay logged in all the time because of the photo gallery. I check the comments every morning to make sure nothing unpleasant has been posted. Am happy to say that this has only happened on a few occasions - and the offending comment gets deleted immediately.

The reason I also delete anonymous comments is just because I feel that people seeing a comment made under their photo would like to know who has posted it. It makes the most sense, since this is the h2g2 friends photo gallery, that people post their hootoo nickname.

There have been a couple of anonymous comments that I left as the person later identified themself in the comment.

In any case, it's just a question of good manners, I think. To let someone know who you are if you want to leave a comment under their photo.
