hi Iago,
Of course I don't mind you looking at the cat photos - that's why they're there! Yes, Sunny *is* seriously cute, though he's more of a dog than a cat.
And now Galaxy Babe is in the gallery.

This wonderful little project of yours is mushrooming. No advertising required. It's great to put faces to all these names.
Now that I see how it works, the 'comments' function on the FOTKI pages is a very intersting format. The visual connection to each posting has great possibilities.
I'm wondering just how much space it allows, because it makes for a very interesting way to have an ongoing conversation forum with each posting having an illustration!
Not that I'm suggesting we do that with your 'h2g2 friends photo gallery' which is doing an excellent job of being exactly that, a place for h2g2 friends to meet and greet face to face for a change.
I'm just speculating on what other kinds of conversation forums might be possible there if someone set up a site with pages and pages of illustrations and icons that could be used by anyone posting to it.
It would have to be set and managed by someone with an extensive library of jpg images who was willing to accept and post new offerings from contributors. It has the potential to fill that visual gap we all sometimes feel in conversation threads. Sort of a new and bigger use of this medium. Is it expensive?
Thanks again for managing this az, keep up the great work.
peace

hi jwf,
This is just my friends photo gallery that I have started up on my journal here. And I think it is turning out quite lovely.
<<
You were the guy a few pages back who said you thought it better that people posted all their comments here on this thread rather than under the photos, so that everone would see them.

Aarrgh. This is just my photo album, jwf. I never meant it to be anything HUGE or anything - just a nice place here where people could share their photos and say - hi, this is me!
Possibly now others are going to start up *bigger and better* hootoo photo albums. That is really not my concern. This one is the one I wanted to create. And I think it's very nice as it is and in the way it is growing. Little by little, word-of-mouth. I like it.
I'm afraid you have hurt my feelings, jwf, though perhaps I have taken you the wrong way.

Now I am being told elsewhere that I am being oversensitive and taking things the wrong way. Well, not the first time, and no doubt not the last.
Sorry everyone - more photos please!

I'm sorry. That was never my intention at all.
As I said: "This wonderful little project of yours is mushrooming. No advertising required. It's great to put faces to all these names."
What started out as a little project has become very very popular even without advertising and I for one am very happy to see it growing. I am personally very pleased with what you are doing and the positive response it has been getting.

Yes that was when I was still trying to figue out how the FOTKI format works. My h2g2 patriotism was partly to blame, not wanting people to wander off into yet another offsite private conversation. (There are far too many already.)
At first I couldn't figure out how the 'comments' section at FOTKI tied together all the pictures in an 'all comments' forum. Now I see that it allows you to review and post any image from the gallery to what is essentially an ongoing conversation forum. I had begun to see other possibilties in this FOTKI feature and was wondering just how much space they provide and how much it costs.
I like the idea of being able to select an image from a central file (gallery) to support or enhance a conversation thread. Of course I mean 'other' conversation threads about 'other' subjects, yet to be started. It could be used by chess players for example to show which piece they were moving in an online game. Or by artists or puzzle makers working with another completely unique gallery of images, shapes and colours. Or it could be just be an identifying photo signature of every speaker in an ongoing conversation so people know who is speaking at each posting.
Because each posting in the conversation has an image attached, it's sort of like having a complete set of custom made smileys. So I was only speculating about a variety of OTHER possible uses for this type of FOTKI format. I wasn't seeking any changes or expressing any disatisfaction with the gallery of happy faces you have here. Sorry to confuse or hurt feelings.
And I meant what I said about being personally grateful for your efforts and hoping you can keep up this great work, which as you say is keeping you extremely busy. So I'll put your doubt of me down to your being a little stressed and tired and hope you will forgive my discussing these 'other' possibilities in your gallery thread.
peace

jwf,
Well, I'm really not 'extremely' busy with the photo album at the moment (three new photos today), though I am somewhat stressed and tired these days.
When can we expect your next photo?
