Blimmey, three weeks already since we last talked - I can't believe it.
Here's some info about the Cerne Abbas Giant (from my book)


A chalk carving of a naked, club wielding man, 55m (180ft) tall, with a phallus of just over 9m(30ft)long.
He's either believed to be Romano-British ( c.AD 191)and that he represents Hercules, based on the fact that the Emperor Commodus (AD 180-93) fancied himself as Hercules reincarnated and promoted a Herculean cult. Imagery from that time reveals Hercules portrayed naked, with a club in his right hand and a skin draped over his left; excavation has shown that the Giant was originally carrying an animal shin. Other experts state that the Romans only adorned the existing figure with a club, yet others associate the giant with St. Augustines visit in the sixth century. Recent theories suggest that the Giant was carved 360 years ago as pritest against Oliver Cromwell, or that the figure provides evidence of giants in Medieval England.

I've seen him 'in the chalk' so to speak a few times. We often passed him on the way to other places. He really is very impressive

It's amazing how much stuff you can cram into just half a lifetime you know.
I havent seen half the things i would like to see in this country and i live here!
I have been to stone henge and seen other chalk carvings, there are quite a few in Dorset. I'd like to visit the south downs and also see Hadrians wall, maybe i will one day.

I've actually seen quite a few things during my two weeks holiday two years ago, so i shouldn't complain
