My first appearance in the local paper, after two years of doing community outreach work:
http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/4635363.Gang_attacks_man_in_street/?ref=mr
Is it weird that seeing the attack written up like that is making me feel worse than actually having a broken nose and all the rest?
And is 4.15 to early to close the curtains and just go to bed?

I should think several things are affecting you right now, the shock of the attack itself and the shock of your painful injuries. Feeling wierd sounds really normal, although perhaps reading about made it sound almost as if it happened to somebody else while knowing it was you.
Try talking to RL friends and contacts about it, maybe victim support if you're still feeling wierd once the physical pains start to lessen.
Hope you're feeling much better soon

Take care of your wounds, physical and emotional.
Have a walk in the countryside if you can. Give you a treat... YOu need tenderness and affection more than ever.
It´s hard to imagine you in such circunstances. I feel sorry for you.

It sounded awful before and sounds worse now.
I'm glad you weren't injured even worse- they sound like real thugs. I hope you heal quickly and that the offenders may be prosecuted.

Oh blimey.
Quite apart from not liking the thought that you've been hurt, I'm also having trouble with the fact that it's someone who's trying to improve the community that got attacked. Not that anyone should be attacked, of course. Oh dear, my thinking's rather disordered this morning. But I think you can probably see what I'm trying to say.

Should probably round this off with something more cheery: I have some truly awesome friends.
Friend 1 calls me up, said he's read the paper and asks if I'm alright. My answer doesn't really satisfy him so he takes me out and gets me very drunk.
Friend 2 calls on Saturday, has heard that I had yesterday and today off (Eid Mubarak!) and that he feels like he's been a bad friend. Cue 2 days of messing about (not drinking) films, computer games, bad jokes and him letting me drive his car.
Friend 2 has just left, having fed me up in one of the nicest places in Bradford.
So I'm going into work tomorrow and I'm going to carry on doing so until I get a job that takes me out of this sewer of humanity. But in the meantime, awesome friends are the way to go.

I wish there was something I could do to help you find that job... but I am glad you have such awesome friends looking after you!

Glad to hear friends came round and took care of you. I guess you vented some frustration slagging off the bas**_ds who so disgracefully attacked you. Call them s and worse again. But for your own sake, don't let this sour you.
Hope things go well

We've got 1 of the trio and we've got a very strong idea of who his two mates are. And given the police are now heavily involved, I should probably stop talking about it here.

End with a joke:
This community youth worker comes across someone lying bleeding and bruised in the gutter, clearly having been beaten up
'My god!' he says, 'The people who did this to you really need help!'
ba-dam TISH!

My sense of humour got commented on today in work: the deputy head who's doing an awesome job of sorting this stuff out from the school side said he'd never realised just how dry my sense of humour could be - that my delivery can be so deadpan and the stuff I say so outside the realms of normal humour that he just though I was being an arse when I spoke.
Today, having spent a lot of time with me, he saw things like my grin and the twinkle in my eyes when I'm joking. An example: he was asking me if I felt any after effects and I come back with "Not really, in fact this attack has made me pretty classy - before I was just a geeky Scouser, now I'm a pretty posh car."
One of the scars on my face is the shape of the Mercedes-Benz logo (other logos are available, just not on my face).
Also got a round of applause from a group of students who aren't really fans of mine and deputy head sees it and is about to jump in. I turn to them, bow "I'll be here all week, you've been a great audience" and wave as I walk away. Deputy head stands and looks slightly bemused.

Iago - you're one of the people I'd like to meet in real life. You seem like a lovely person online and I bet you'd be even lovelier in the... uh... flesh.
Edward - It took me several attempts to get your joke, because I would have thought along the same lines (after helping the poor person out, of course). *facepalm*
