Having ignored it when it was screened I watched the first series this week.

Om my, it's really rather splendid.

And as for Russel Tovey...

Gah! I'm too skint. I'm being hassled to go to a leftie conference in Manchester that weekend too.

Or it could be Birmingham.

The skintness renders the location largely academic.

I'm not rolling in it either, but I'm making the exception in order to stop spending all my time with the glowing magic box on my desk.

Were Iago here, he'd doubtless remind me it is the quality of the human interaction via the glowing magic box that is important and in that I am truly blessed and of course he's right, however I can warrant a trip to Manchester on the grounds that it's simply to easy for me to put it off.

I guess the us version will be a complete redo as it says 13 eps so they'll have to get a completely new storyline. And that is all the time I am prepared to spend thinking/talking about that concept.

But on to the second ep of series 2. That was really rather good. Lots of stuff in there, lots of development, we now know what a type 3 is and the baddies know about Nina. The Ivan character is getting a bit more interesting too. And George wasn't being quite such an annoying pillock this week, much better. And Sir Terry! Good he agreed to be in it, guess that must mean the show has some clout in the Beeb. Indeed the whole Saul storyline was interesting, although the ending a bit odd. Can't wait to find out where Annie is going in this series.

Roll on next weekend.

oh, and vaguely remember having a dream with some scary men with sticks and ropes in it at one point! Eek, it's getting into my subconscious!

That was just superb. The show just knocks it out of the park every single week.

The *only* thing I can criticise is that Annie seems to be wearing too much make-up and it's a touch distracting.

Loved the Annie story and was genuinely scared towards the end. Sir Terry was brilliant, that whole thing was a brilliant device, and the South West Tonight bloke must have had a blast doing his section. I can't understand Hugh being the consolation guy - he's gorgeous and seems like a top bloke

George and Nina were stunning. I still wish they'd gone a different direction with Nina, but what they're doing with her is compelling all the same.

I'm enjoying the set-up with Mitchell and the vampires - I like Ivan, I'm enjoying the nihilism of his character. Loved Ivan's conversation with George about Daisy, that worked well.

It's often the little bits in the show that really get me: the gay vampire stuff (I will be using Mince of Darkness!) and the fact that Mitchell and fish-lady were sitting on Lauren's bench - a brilliant little call back to last series.

Do I really have to wait a whole week for the next ep?

I've done essaying for today, I'm going to go watch it now... will report back..

Just finished.

Wow.

I liked that we are getting a bit more of the vampire society, I mean how the mortician covered for them but post Herrick... the suggestio that it's all starting to unravel.

Got to say I'm 100% going along with Ivan as the nihilist. smiley - biggrin

"I really love her:

"must be nice"

"I'll tell you what the future looks like: Enforced worship in churches a mile high. And every country surrounded by coral reef of bones. Well f*ck it maybe it should happen there's nothing on tv. Hey Carl! You coming killer?"

Wonderful. smiley - laugh

Reminds me a little of Crowly from Good Omens "tonight we shall be listening to Ms Kate Bush." taking a devilish delight in small affectations.

It's good that we are getting more of the ghost-world, if I can call it that.

We've had the return of Death's Door - still love that - but now we are getting men with ropes, voices on the radio and TV, crossings over - all very exciting.

>I still wish they'd gone a different direction with Nina,<

Nina's character - there's a plot there we aren't fully privy to yet, I feel.

I think she'll be a lynch pin because she's the every-man character - by which I mean this series is her induction, we met all the other characters already turned but struggling to cope, hers in the first step we never saw any of them take - so for an audience she's a hook on how to (not) handle all these conflicting emotions.

My guess is what they do with and to Nina will be the centre of the series, and how that in turn affects the others.

What incidentally is a Type 3? If Nina is a type 1? I'm a little unclear on that still.

So Annie's back to being transparent again, she's not been like that since...Owen - will he be coming back? When will Hugh notice Annie has vanished?

smiley - vampire So chances are it'll turn out to be a fetish thing.

smiley - nurse ?

smiley - vampire Oh come on! You know those people: they work in IT but at weekends put on frilly shirts and make out they are in a Gothic novel.

The fellas pretend to be Dracula and the women all have heaving breasts under their nighties.
Then they get changed and it's back in the Ford Focus.

smiley - nurse So... rather than my mistake - or a clerical error - the hope is some mad sex cult stole his body?

<vampire. Hmm. Fingers crossed.

smiley - rofl

I think the types refer to different kinds of supernatural being: vampires are type 1, ghosts are type 2 and werewolves are type 3.

Nighthoover's Type 0 but won't be turning up until the end-of-series two parter.
