I have just discovered this morning that I am of Melungeon descent. So that means you were probably right, about the Cherokee part, and also explains my weird notion we should all melt together to one race I guess. I bet you know alot more about it than I do at this point, but it is just fascinating to me. I told my daughter to tell the neighbor kids one time that her grand daddy is black. Just cause they are such prejudice, church going type folks you know. They were giving her a hard time cause she likes a Puerto Rican boy. I can't wait till she gets home so I can tell her it was probably more like her great great many times removed grandmother, but the black is there I beleive. If some of the other stuff I read is true so is the middle eastern, native american, gypsy, just about whatever else you can think of. I have to do some more research on this, I am very glad to find it out though. That's still on my grandfather's side though, I have not been able to trace my grandmother at all. But now that I understand a little better where we came from I understand why a little more. She was probably a part of an out-cast group of people who hid in the mountains and tried to not be noticed. I think I understand a littel better now why I have never really identified with any certain group. Well anyway, I thought you might find it interesting. hope you're having a nice day

It's very interesting what you can find pretty close to home. Now if you can find some more of those people it's a start on recovering what everybody once had before they decided it would be better to pretend to be something else.
It's sort of like the children who get adopted. They lose touch but there's always something missing in their lives and sometimes they recover it. So then they have the experience of their adoption plus the experience of who they are and I think they become stronger for it.
I hope you find your grandmother. I think it might not be too hard if you don't look too far away because people tend to marry people like themselves.
And thanks for sharing this because I didn't even know about these people although looking at it now I wonder why I didn't. It's one of those things where if they didn't exist you'd have to invent them because it just wouldn't make sense if they didn't exist.
I've had a pretty long day, kind of frantic, but that's not unusual. Everything's due yesterday it seems and everyone seems to think their course is the only one you're taking or should be taking.
It actually seems to be a little easier for me than more many of the other kids. I don't think they know how to work very well so they really get behind. It's too bad to have to grow up so fast in just of couple of years and I think some probably don't.
I've had 10 or 12 years to grow up now, although you probably didn't notice. But compared to the others I don't feel like I'm so overwhelmed. Except I do get really lonely and homesick still, but that's just how I am I guess.
