I was just in an earthquake (well, a few hours ago). It was a reasonable size (7.8) and lasted a really long time (maybe a couple of minutes). I was on the phone to a friend so I got to give her a running commentary while I tried to put my trousers on in case the world was about to end.
It did one of those cool slidey under your feet things near the end. I'd been in a bigger earthquake a few years ago that was really scarey not least because it was long and near the end it got suddenly really much stronger, so I was a bit worried about this one too.
All's well though.
My friend and I kept talking for a few hours. I just had a look online at the reports and see that a tsunami warning was issued. we forgot about that. I'm inland but my mate is half a block from the sea. Ooops Turns out it was just a wee one.
So the BBC online has a report up quickly which is interesting (we've had at least one tsunami warning in the past where people in NZ knew about the warning from international media before NZ Civil Defense ).
I'm still trying to figure out the should you go outside in an earthquake thing. We were always taught to stand in a doorway or hide under a heavy table. But I think in a quake big enough to collapse a house I'd want to be outside (unless I was in a city of course). The big quake I was in a few years ago was big enough to make me try and get outside.

What is to become of me???

Yesterday I in a post I wrote U instead of You It wasn't a mistake so much as my subconscious thinking that U was a perfectly ok word to use and it just happened automatically.
I'm really worried now.

I'm back I've got broadband for at least the next month. I'm meant to be having a rest during this time so expect the usual slackarsery from me in terms of falling behind with things here, but good to be back.

I joined h2g2 six years ago today. How cool is that?
And in celebration I think I will steal this, the first bit of which is on the FP as QotD. It reminds me what h2g2 is all about (that and writing guide entries of course ):
Merry Christmas to one and all on H2G2,
except of course if you do not recognise or celebrate Christmas, then just enjoy the break from work. Unless of course you are working over the holiday season then hope you enjoy your next wage packet! And if you just don't do Christmas, then I hope the festivities don't darken your door, Bah humbug!

p.s. sorry I've not been around for a while, I'm not online much at the moment I know I still have a few convos to catch up with... It is summer here though...

My computer is going away to get fixed, so might not be around for a bit. Normally I wouldn't assume that was worthy of a journal entry, but there's a number of threads I've started or gotten involved in this week. Didn't want people thinking I'd done a runner....
