I, kea...
Posted Jun 3, 2011
I've been using google by site search to look for threads on h2g2 for a few years now. The easiest way for me to find a thread I've been in is to use +kea. Google have just started asking me if I really mean ikea
I most certainly do not
Worse, I bought some very nice ceramic mugs at a garage sale recently that were made by ikea. There is no ikea store in NZ. Although there are some in Oz I think it's entirely possible that the mugs came to NZ with English immigrants (we have so many). But the mugs were made in Thailand. Am I drinking from a cup that's travelled from Thailand to the UK and then to NZ? Is this insane? Where will it all end, and more importantly, how will it all end. Badly I suspect.
btw, for those that don't know yet, kea in te reo Maori is the name of the mountain parrot Nestor notabilis. The word is onomatopoeic for the parrots cry.

I've just seen the news about h2g2 being disposed of by the bbc. I suspect I am going to be very angry soon, right now I'm in shock.
What I don't undersand is how we've had no warning of this. There will have been meetings, and people that have been reassuring us about the redesign will have known about those meetings.
And why now in the middle of the Great Redesign Cockup?
. Or should I be
Anyway, I'm not sure I've got the time to keep up with the explosion of conversations about this today, so if anyone feels like giving me the juicy bits I'd appreciate it.
I see Z has a project going looking at buying the place, so will pop over there when I get the chance.

I've been tidying up the house in anticipation of my parents' visiting. All morning (the tidying, not the visit which will be 5 days). It doesn't look any tidier than before I can't say I'm 100% happy about this and am wondering if something needs toning down.

kea ~ Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small, unregarded but very well read blue and white website

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
