I've been using google by site search to look for threads on h2g2 for a few years now. The easiest way for me to find a thread I've been in is to use +kea. Google have just started asking me if I really mean ikea
I most certainly do not
Worse, I bought some very nice ceramic mugs at a garage sale recently that were made by ikea. There is no ikea store in NZ. Although there are some in Oz I think it's entirely possible that the mugs came to NZ with English immigrants (we have so many). But the mugs were made in Thailand. Am I drinking from a cup that's travelled from Thailand to the UK and then to NZ? Is this insane? Where will it all end, and more importantly, how will it all end. Badly I suspect.
btw, for those that don't know yet, kea in te reo Maori is the name of the mountain parrot Nestor notabilis. The word is onomatopoeic for the parrots cry.

The name kea is used for the parrots in English too, isn't it? I thought so, but Chrome's spellchecker doesn't recognise it.
I think the Irish government actually changed planning regulations to allow Ikea shops in this country. Regulations wouldn't allow them one of the massive shops they like, and they refused to build anything smaller. That's how I remember it, anyway. I may have some or all of the details wrong. I've never been to an Ikea. I remember being in the UK once, watching the local news. There was a new Ikea opening, and massive queues, with people camping out overnight. Really.

We even have Ikea here on this godforsaken island. It has only recently arrived and the exact same things seem to cost a helluva lot more here than in the UK for instance.
My house was designed by a Swedish architect back in the 70s when Ikea was new and all the fittings and furniture were imported back then from Ikea. It was good when they eventually opened a store here, so I can replace some of the bits and pieces with stuff that fits in.
I, Kea, sounds like a start to an important speech. Like I, Claudius or something. I was expecting a declaration of some kind or other. Independence speech?

Ikea opened in Scotland a few years ago. I don't quite get it, but people were getting *boats* over to go to it. Busloads going to Scotland with the express purpose of going to Ikea.
Lots of stuff they sell is incomplete, anyway. You have to interpret it eccentrically yourself to finish the job right.
Help's at hand though. http://www.ikeahackers.net/

I just see Ikea as a bit of fun to visit now and then..I'd had no idea about this hysteria we were meant to have about it here. We have one about 7 miles away near Croydon. It's funny when you see those big Ikea chimneys as you get close. You can a pretend Swedish meatball lunch.
You can follow the route through the shop..as a friend said its like a giant digestive system that you pass through.
I like it..once in a while, a bit like the way I like 'Mastermind'.

Yeah, I'm not mad about that whole guided circuit thing they have going on. It makes it harder to go right to whatever it is you want and then straight out without passing everything (which is obviously the intention, of course).

Oh that's what I like..a bit like Santa's grotto. I've only ever actually bought the occasional thing from it though. I haven't been in ages though because friends with kids have now grown up..that was most of the fun, because you can try everything out without some shop person making you feel uncomfortable.
I'd thought it was a dog that had its day though..a bit like Habicrap. I probably buy stuff like that via the internet now. Or if it's something a bit particular that requires a good first hand look..a trip to John Lewis in town.
Trig's description sounds wild.

How very rude, to start a thread and then not reply to any of the replies
To make up, here's some mystery code I just found on my desktop, so I'm posting it to see what it is

I really should do the full name, in lower case of course
I found this one on my desktop a while ago. It was for a thread on some policemen who got told off for using their riot shields as snow sleds

Ok, I needed some distraction for half an hour, and that's sufficed. Normal transmission will now resume. Hopefully I'll stop clogging up the convo list on the Burkless FP too.

Hi kea
Brilliant - I particularly like the policeman one. Probably the best use of a riot shield anyway.

Hey there in NZ. Isn't it dark there?
Great news about the future isn't it! Lets hope that Barlesque gets the push. I'm still using Brunel (I know, I know - horrible, brash, industrial - but I like it).
