Did the vet say how he caught the virus ? Jim. IE: contact with an infected or just picked up off the grass etc ?

Could the neighbour have fed him something he didn't agree with?

when my mam had our Spud He was badly a few days, turned out a nieghbour had given him something ? (that was off)

There are some things one should never feed pets. Most dogs don't agree with . I hear chestnuts are dangerous for them as well

according to vets here - is deadly to dogs ? but many years agomy mam went to sit at night for a old lady (a long time friend of my mam and my gran)who was on the proverbial last legs (it gave her family members a night off)
She took a 1/2lb bar of choc to "nibble" during the nightBUT! when she put her hand in a bag for it, all she got was the wrapping paper etc ?
Turned out! Our golden lab' had snatched it out before she left our house - never effected him in anyway Either honking up or the backdoor
