Hi There <BB<. I notice you have nights in white satin on your title, that was the record that I really liked when it came out, it was playing in the pub I went to the day I left the RN. As regards to the Accidents in the Channel, we met a tanker at sea going flat out and no none on the bridge, auto/pilot on?. White settler expression has been used up North when they started moving up there in the eighty`s.
Did you have any luck with your job hunt in Leeds? I was looking round the rest of this site earlier, its good, By the way I was given this as log on address=www.bbc.co.uk./dna/h2g2/u210712 for this site. I can only get in through your site on Hms Zulu. It takes me ages! Did you write all that information? it must have taken weeks of research. It is interesting as well. Has any one else commented on it?
Catch you later,- Smudger.

Hi There >BB>, Speaking of GPS navigation. Im sure that when I last sent you a message the page was not as full as this. Maybe Ive come in on a different string? Could you help me with the logging on to this site as I still have to come in through your Hms Zulu one? I gave you the site ref. no. I was given earlier. Did you get my last message? Weather up here now is Gale force winds! How about your end of the country? I took a drive down to the Forth Bridge yesterday, water was really choppy! glag Im not at sea any more! I am still finding my way round this site, its interesting. Did you write all that information yourself on Pacific Glory? Looks like a lot of research went into it. I saw a good book on computers for beginners recently, hope I get it for my birthday, dropped enough hints to my wife, that she could fall over. Let me know if you can help with the site address. Many thanks. Smudger. RN

Hello Smudger,
sorry about the delay in replying - I only tend to get time to be online once or twice a week, I've not been online since last weekend. smiley - winkeye
Yes, I agree that the Moody Blues "Nights In White Satin" is a great song - I've only got their Greatest Hits album, but think that they did some great songs, although I prefer their live version of "Nights In White Satin" (from the "Isle Of Wight Festival 1970" album) to the single release.
The easiest way to login would be to try:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/login
it should make life easier than going through the article each time.

It has taken quite a while to write - it's only part of a 21 series of articles on Isle of Wight shipwrecks which took a few months to write. So far, you're the only one to have mentioned any of it!

Hi There <BB<, I found your reply ok, every time I log on to this site its different? doing something wrong? Its a pity you only had one response to your article, a lot of work gone into it. I can remember jist as I was waiting discharge from RN, they were filming That Will Be The Day, on your Island, and they wanted navy lads for extras in a bar scene! due to our short hair cuts, any way we all went over for filming and they were using "real" drink!on the set. There were a few retakes for technical problems, we were swiftly heading, well that way! In the end they gave up on the scene as the extras in the backround were falling over? I went to see the film years later, and guess what? They had cut that scene out! wonder why?
Any way, that was the end of my film carrer. I will use that address you gave to log on next time, thanks for that. All the best.
Smudger.

Sorry about that – I spent about 5 years without internet access around 2003-2008 and it's taken a further 6 years to track down this conversationsmiley - doh – but then, we are now having it in 3 different places:
F105749?thread=228848
F101799?thread=228452
F105749?thread=8315496
I think to avoid confusionsmiley - headhurts we should stick to this thread from now on.

I still haven't seen 'That'll Be the Day' – I'll have to see if I can track down a copy...

I had forgotten all about them other threads, and it feels weird talking about the Pacific Glory again, it seems a life time ago.

Well, it is really, I was in my teens back then? smiley - winkeye

I've got photos of the drama from the sea shore that my Dad took – but all you can see is a dense, thick cloud.

Aye! we were in that smoke, I remember it made our lungs feel like they were on fire, and when we got back on board, from the small Gemini boat, our skin was all black, took ages to wash it off.

It's weird really, as I've never thought about that for years now, yet while I'm typing this, it feels like yesterday?smiley - erm

Nah! I was out of the RN before that happened. I worked off shore and overseas for 14 years, lost a few work mates during that time.

Then I did seven years in the ambulance service,?smiley - erm

I mentioned the 'Pacific Glory' to my Dad over the weekend, and he says he still remembers that night sitting on the beach reading a newspaper from the ship's glow…

I don't know if you've seen the conversation over here: F19585?thread=8316364
Bob & I were wondering if you've had any experiences with famous people that you'd be happy to share, or any opinions on what it would be like to be famous etc.
