Tell ya what Az - if you really *really* want to make me a tealight holder, then I'll trade you a pot of Mummy Cream for it.

I'd like to see the results of what you do, anyway. Anyone who can even vauguely "pot" is worthy of my interest, because I have all the potting abilities of ..smiley - erm.. a non potting sort of a person.

So, I didn't get to pottery for a while.

Still I've made a couple of things on the wheel, did a little work on them leather hard on Tuesday.
There are whole load of new people at the pottery now. I seem to be the person there that knows most about pottery which is scary because I know -- I was gonna say Sweet Fanny Adams, which when you know who Fanny Adams was and what happened to her, you don't wanna use that phrase any more... -- because I know shack jit about pottery, but people seem to find what I do on the wheel to be worthy of 'wows' but they're not. But, they're not utterly awful either.

Relax and enjoy the admiration. If it's not wow in your eyes, it's obviously wow to them. It's all relative. And each time you learn something, yes?

I know nothing about Fanny Adams, so that remark does a whooshing sound as it flies by...

aah, a less than pc colloquialism then perhaps?

Congrats on the pottery! If people are admiring your work, learn to accept the praise and if you find it hard, perhaps ask one or two once in a while what it is they like about what you've done... And compliment their work back if you like it.

Learning to accept that you can do things that other people admire is hard! It took me years and I still tend to try to deflect the attention, even though I love it really, deep down..

It's one of the many phrases that have entered the language through our naval past.
Political correctness has nothing to do with it, it just makes me feel ill thinking about it.

Throwing clay is only a challenge if you're trying to force the clay to become what you want, I just let the clay become whatever it wants to be.

Mm. Yeah, I'm not good with praise. Yet I need the external validation, 'cause I'm even worse at generating it internally.

Yep! join the club. Train yourself though. It's worth it! I used to get so shy and didnt know what to say so I'd say nothing, but I've learned that a smile and a genuinely pleased thank you sends people off smiling smiley - smiley Just remember that a compliment is a gift given freely, you may as well accept it, otherwise it's wasted!

For me it's not much shyness I have to overcome that's keeping not knowing what to say, it's subjugating the urge to argue my case for just how crap what I've done is and utterly talentless I am.

As Robyn sais... "Thank you" and smiley - smiley and you have given a gift back, AND recieved a gift from them.

Bite back the self criticism. In time it will pass. Even I had to learn to take compliments... smiley - laugh (I just know you will find that hard to believe!) and not turn them angrily back. (Because that is like saying "you are stupid, how can you think this crap is any good" and that really hurts the one trying to be nice)

Lick up the praise, one grows from such food.

I think that's how at school I came to be seen as arrogant, I thought I was just being honest.
