Is There Anybody Out There?
Stealth "Jack" Azathoth Started conversation Jan 7, 2006
The Around-The-World-Book Project.
The Dance of the Voodoo Handbag is a novel by Robert Rankin, it's the one that made me a fan rather than just a reader. A copy of this book has been to Milla in Sweden and from there on to see Krabatt in the crazy BeNeLux area. It would be cool if you could all declare you interest or non-interest in reading the book and helping get a book around the world.

Sorry, non-interest here. I tried to read it once and couldn't get into it. Gothly's already read it and enjoyed it.

I'd volunteer, but I have too much to read already.

Though if it's still going around in the summer, I'll have it then.

Have you guys heard of BookCrossing? That might be the next step for the book: http://www.bookcrossing.com/
You register it on the site, then leave it in a random public place for a stranger to pick up and enjoy. Once they've read it, they have to then leave it lying around for someone else, and so on.

I'd heard of the practice, I didn't know there was site dedicated to it. Interesting.
I'm also pleased to note that Gothly is a... Discerning man of grand and subtle tastes!
Milla has set a challenge - And like I say it's one I intend to meet. I want to get the book out there, being enjoyed by many, provoking interest in Robert's work and traveling the world, I want it to be an around the world book, traversing continents, hopping oceans.
It may take time, but I'm patient.

So... Is anyone subscribed to this interested in being one of the future destinations for the book?

They must all have gone to the Esotherica thread... I have tried the... *darn my godfish memory* ...bookcrossing (!) thing - picked up a couple of books at the grocery store, and left them around town. It feels a little anonymous, and random. I think for the handbag, it might be nicer to send it between your friends. In time, I'm sure someone will put their hand up for receiving it.

'They came to me about a year ago. I was sitting on the John having one of those satisfying bowel movements. You know, that ones that border on mystical. Where you're like--- And there they were. Hundreds of the cutest little fat people floating right in front of me. It was wonderful. And then...they spoke.' - Parry [as played by Robin William,s in the rather touching The Fisher King.]

Saidis indeed in my Librairie Privat, even as we squeak; it is aiding my zen ca-ca's very nicely.
I want a Barry the Sprout all of my very own, at the moment i am having to make do with an emotionally disturbed & intellectually impaired pickled caper, this really isn't that useful.Sprouts have layers, capers can be mistaken for nasty little glands & have a worrying dependency on vinegar & are inevitably bitter and twisted.
Who put the badge on? Is the idea to add another badge each time, or swap badges or what? (This is the "Some call me laz" one)

I put the badge on.
It is a Rankin collectable from the Brightonomicon book launch.
The original "idea" was that the badge not get lost in transit to Sweden.
I've said elsewhere that my preference is that since Milla didn't want the badge, that it just stay with book on it's journey. Laz is our 'hero' afterall.
The lovely Milla I think started a page in the for people the books visited and been read by to sign, it would be good to keep that up.
Now does anyone think Hati or B'Elana might be interested in a read, or have ideas about who might be?
Should I try to find the time at somepoint to create a page for the book to keep progress on where it's been and to identify destination?

page;page!!!! Yeah yeah yeah!!!!
i have to confess i removed the badge while reading & pinned it next to my h2g2 Official badge & one sent by fellow hooter on the Bedouin tent that enshrouds my computer. (They think i am joking; ask Roadkill, he has lived here) but will re-pin & if you like, add another one for when i send it on.

I never realised that I could have nicked the badge! I really liked it, but it seemed so much part of the book...

E mail your address and I'll post you one or two of the round ones. The nicer official pins are harder to come by and 'acts of great service to the site pins' are gained that way. Alternatively you can turn up at a future London meet where you may get a pin and badge.
