h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

. I'm a h2g2 guru. Gurus are volunteers who try to find answers to problems researchers come up against when using h2g2. There is a list of gurus on my page which you can see if you click on my name at the top of this post.

If you click on 'Who's Online' you can see the researchers names, clicking any of these will take you to their 'Space' where you can see what they have contributed to H2G2. There is no restriction to looking at researchers 'Spaces' and you can do so at any time (even if they are not on line). Feel free to join in any thread.

If you want to see how a page is constructed, replace the 'U' in front of the researcher number with 'testuserspace' e.g. U172782 becomes testuserspace172782 (on the address bar).
For entries just replace the 'A' with test e.g. test712595.
You can click on anything underlined and if you click on a smiley you will be instantly transported to the smiley page where you will see all the smileys you can use. Some of the smileys on my page are links, so clicking on them will show you some of my contributions to h2g2. I use classic goo (the original colour of the h2g2 site before the beeb took over)

Thanks for the welcome and I'm so glad that you are here, as I have a lot of questions about the site. I tried the testuserspace on someone else's page and it said that the address didn't exist. Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong? I replaced the U with testuserspace in the address bar. I know this is probably a really stupid question...

You need to type 'testuserpage', not 'testuserspace'. So the URL you'll need to test my user page (for example) is -

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/testuserpage177704

I've been a bit pushed for time and motivation recently, so I'm trying to make amends by trying extra hard with my h2g2 responsibilities this weekend

Sorry to be a bother, but I was wondering, is there a place to practice using guideML in the clinic? That way if I goof, the instructions on how to fix it would be right there. If not how can I practice without completely screwing up my space?

P.S. I really wanted to add a fishtank in my space. A bit overly ambitious of me for now, but just wanted to share.

You can create an entry and use that to try out things. Do you know any HTML?

If you want to practice your GuideML with out ruining your space, then just click the 'Add Entry' button on your space. This will create a new Guide Entry, and you can use it to test any GuideML that you create.

Also, try using the 'preview' button before you upload any of your GuideML entries
