Except we're the intellegent ones. Out school yeah happens at the same time as the normal year. New year, new year level. EASY! AND it means I can go "Hmmm, grade 1, 1996." I don't have to go "Hmmm, grade 1, end of 1996, start of 1997" or maybe "Hmmm, grade 1, end of 1995, start of 1996"
Makes it a lot easier. Like, I know I got my last tetnus booster in prep = 1995. I don't have 2 years to pick from, cause I don't know which month it was! I just know it was in prep!

Sadly we're not fortunate enough to have our Christmas and summer holidays at the same time....

Shouldn't school always start at the start of September, and end at the end of june? That's nine months, how much do they need... ours start on August 9th this year, or so... And we still have two weeks to go.
It'd be nice to get a month off 4 times a year. Or 2 weeks 3 times, then 6 in the summer. Or two weeks in school, 2 weeks out, all year round. But no, it's all fluid, stupid, and changing.
Oh well, at least I don't have exams.
...if you had you Christmas and summer Holidays at the same time you'd have to go months without a break.

Wonko, it has to 9 months...
180 days (the standard school year I beleive) is 36 weeks, minus weekends. 4 (approx.) weeks per month would be 9 months. since most months are a little longer than that, that's where the holidays come from.

has to /be/ nine months.*
and that is true, at least, in the US.

In Australia we start school start of Feb / last week of January and then have holidays at easter (depending on when that is depends on how long first term is, this year it was short, only like 8 and a half weeks, most terms are 10 or 11) and then holidays in late June / early July and then holidays late September (My birthday!) / early October and then break up for Summer and Christmas hols early December if you go to a catholic / private high school, like the week before CHristmas if you're in primary school or a government school.
Most holidays are 2 weeks (aside from summer of course) except some private / catholic high schools have one 3 week holiday which is usually July or September. Unfortunately my school isn't one of these...

HA HA!
We get a 3 week holiday between terms 2 & 3.
As well as our 8 and a 1/2 week holiday at Christmas.

Cat-Eyes: No..... why.... ? Posted May 16, 2004
We get the 8 and half one, but no 3 weeks one
Actually, i think we get longer summer than you do, but not an entire week. Cause most people go back on the Wednesday or Thrusday, but we go back for a half day orientation on the Friday and start school the following weeek
It's not an entire week though
Stupid school...

Lets see I get a month at Christmas, 5 weeks for easter and a whole 3 months for my Summer. It's great being a university student sometimes

Yeah, until you have three papers, a research project, and a take-home exam all due on the same day, with two presentations to make later that week!
It was a rough semester for me...
