Anthea, in reply to your reply to my reply... or something... Not only does it keep the mother at something to do, it keeps the nanny in work as well. If everyone satyed at home burning bras and looking after children, the world would be smokier, and women wouldn't have any rights.

Be thankful for what we have there are some women out there who would sell their soul for the rights we women in this country have, they are the ones who are little more than their husbands possesions or a baby producing machine.

I agree with being thankful, but not with being complacent. I personally feel that woman's grip on equality is still a little tenuous.

Feminism is incredibly important. Without it rape within marriage would still be perfectly legal, without it women would still be objects.

Feminism is for all women who are suffering from abuse, forced marriages, female circumcision.
Feminism is still necessary, have you seen that recent advert where there's a typically pretty woman smiling at a baby? Then the male voiceover says "All of these expressions cause wrinkles, as an alternative to plastic surgery, try this wrinkle cream". You can't tell me that attitude is Okay.

Feminism is not about erasing gender /differences/ but erasing gender inequality. Some 'feminists' also believe that men and women should be identical, but that is not part of feminism. Perhaps those of us who are not feminists should reappraise what it means to be one.

Yeah, but conversely there's one word I need to say about how feminism has damaged millions of lives, caused at least one war and nearly brought about nuclear armageddon....

Where's your proof for that? She was Reagan's lapdog and prolonged the Cold War (and thus the suffering of millions under decaying Soviet dictatorship) for her own ends so you can't pull the old Blair'n'Bush trick. As for the Falklands? That wasn't about protecting British Sovreign Territory (if you can count Las Islas Malvinas as British Territory) that was about gaining votes to keep her corrupt, scandal ridden oppressive party in power. There's no way any sane, reasonable individual can say she's better than any Labour leader.

yep and that needed doing, we(at my place of work) went on strike, the same time as the miners(the 1 year one), we were out 7 wk, our wages manager told us, that Thatcher had put him down from middle class to working class, so where did that put us, I said "dog shelf"
