And, on a rather classical note, the city's esteemed Greenwood Singers ppresent A Taste Of Scotland, Friday evening at All Saints Cathedral. The program will draw on Highland tunes they perform at the annual Robbie Burns memorial banquet, as well as a few recently uncovered (& rarely heard - certainly rarely heard here) tunes.

Hmm, sounds like it could be interesting. Most of the Scottish tunes I kow arent anything to do with voice, just mainly bagpipes or a vioolin(fiddle) or thereabouts. smiley - smiley

Yes, actually the choirmaster has relatives in Scotland, so they even had didtion lessons via telephone...he'd said there were portions of their rehearsals, where it sounded like they were all clearing their throats. smiley - laugh

Back on the 'Jazz events I'm looking forward to' front, our local Jazz festival (Jazz City - June 19th through 29th) will this year be hosting a Contemporary Jazz favourite of mine, Medeski Martin & Wood! ( http://www.mmw.net/ )

Arrangements are ongoing at this point, but also scheduled, so far are; Patricia Barber, Joshua Redman, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, & (as I posted earlier) Little Feat.

Well, my 3rd attempt to update on the (24th annual)Jazz City/'Jazz events I'm looking forward to' topic: I now have tickets - admittedly a bit pricey, but considering the venue... - for a couple of the festival's higher profile indoor concerts, in our relatively new (& acoustically magnificent) Winspear Centre http://www.winspearcentre.com . Opening night of the festival - June 19th, a friend & I are seeing/hearing Little Feat http://littlefeat.net/ , which should be a terrrific show! Then the same friend (my main Jazz cohort) & I also have tickets to Medeski Martin & Wood http://www.mmw.net , which again, should be a real experience!

Some of the other people I'm hoping to see (time/finances will tell smiley - erm ) include; New York guitarist Mike Stern with Canadian bassist Alain Caron, a Swedish trio simply called The Singers, possibly Britain's Sarah Jane Morris, Canadian Carol Welsman, & an excellent quartet named Terrain (also Canadian)...not to mention a few of the musician-led workshops, if possible. Actually, another show I'm planning to take in is by Sweden's Frederik Nordstom Quintet, who sound promising. There should be no shortage of names/acts to choose from, as the city'll welcome musicians from; Italy, France, Switzerland, Scandinavia, the U.S., & across Canada.

It appears I'll be getting my share of live smiley - musicalnote in June. As mentioned in that last posting, Little Feat are on the 19th, (it turns out) Medeski Martin & Wood are on the 20th - so, unfortunately I'll miss the Frederik Nordstrom Quintet smiley - erm , but get in a 3rd consecutive night of LIVE music (on the 21st) from the Mike Zilber Quartet with Steve Smith & Dave Liebman. Not to mention the fact that our Jazz City fesival still has just over a week to go, & there's a promising show in the intimate Yardbird Suite Fri. the 27th. Ah smiley - cool !
