I was actually going through my cd collection the other day....I'm doing alright considering it's about 4 years old....but I have SO MUCH catching up to do....

Sometimes I wish I was just one of those people who had their scene and stuck to it...It would be so much easier to have a satisfactory collection!

Well, yeah...but too restrictive, limited!

jaz'd(ace & yada yada *sigh* chocolate yada) Posted Mar 21, 2003
Errrrrrrr? Yeah, but only one type of music, I don't know!

tanzen Posted Mar 21, 2003
I couldn't do it really. Truth be told...I need music more than I need beer...

tanzen Posted Mar 21, 2003
Beer is all very well and good, but if I had to choose world without beer and a world without music....I'd have to prefer the latter...

Well, the ICP Orchestra was stranded by that snowstorm in Denver...should probably email & see who's replacing them.

Tomorrow night's the first of 2 shows by Joe LaBarbera & Hadley Caliman at "The Suite". And, indicative of the talent they get in, I'm already looking forward to next month, particularly the second weekend of next month. I mean, the first weekend promises to be a highlight, as the club welcomes American sax player Steve Slagle & his compatriot (& musical partner) guitaist Dave Stryker.
April 11th & 12th, however sees two distinguished veterans of Jazz take the stage. Vibraphone ('vibes') player Peter Appleyard http://www.mgam.com/art_peterapp.html & Edmonton's own (Senator)Tommy Banks http://www.lieutenantgovernor.ab.ca/aoe/bio/banks.htm masterfully accompanying him on the piano.

Well, it goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway ), the two nights were among the constantly growing number of superb performances I've been priviledged to take in at "The Suite"!
I also got to compliment Joe himself, after he'd left the stage & even had him autograph a live CD-of a Nov. '99 gig- he was selling (at the door). And, a couple free afterwards didn't hurt either
!
Next, the Blues Jam (with Tara Benoit & The Blues Imposters) on Tues. evening !

On the topic of music, no specific date was announced but Elvis Costello is coming to our Jubilee Auditorium in July. And Vancouver saxophonist Johnny Ferreira (who's toured with Canada's Colin James, opening for; the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, Carlos Santana, & The Rolling Stones, among others), will coax a variety of Blues sounds (in addition to '60's Pop & Motown covers, along with original compositions)out of his tenor sax tonight, when he does the first of 3 nights at the local Blues On Whyte in The Commercial Hotel.
And, American Roots-Rock heroes Little Feat were confirmed to open our Jazz City festival on June 19th, with a performance at the state-of-the-art Winspear Center.

Well, announced in today's paper, The Noody Blues are here June 21st...unfortunately not in The Winspear, but in the Skyreach Centre, the home of our ice hockey team, the Edmonton Oiles .
