Mm~mM! That Was & funky & rockin'...in a worrd, 'great'! Both nights! Looking forward to finishing the month with; the Lane Arndt Trio & second set by Zebradonk - from Toronto (next Fri.), takin' a night off-hopefully, but missing the 10 pc ICP Orchestra from The Netherlands (Sat.), the Jam Session with local trumpet hero Bob Tildesley (Tues. the 25th), & finally, the Joe LaBarbera Quartet with Hadley Caliman playing tenor sax(both Fri. & Sat. the 28th & 29th)! Joe 'L/B's a very dynamic, powerhouse drummer, so I'm especially waiting for that one. For more info on any of those people, check http://www.yardbirdsuite.com . To paraphrase the late Jackie Gleason "How Suite it is!"

Hello Jazz!
Just stopping by. When you talk about music I can appreciate blues but what kind of jazz is it you are talking about?

jaz'd(ace & yada yada *sigh* chocolate yada) Posted Mar 16, 2003
Actually, Izzybelle, a good variety of it from larger bands to trios. And fom older, more traditional Jazz to some of the more contemporary Jazz (even some of this rather absurd - I find - 'Free Jazz' *rolls eyes*. Good to hear from you, by the way! How's your weekend been?

Last month we has a festival of high school bands, & they did some traditional pieces, but also things like Donovan's 'Mellow Yellow'.

My weekend has been really nice. Spring has arrived for real, and it is so good to see and feel the sun again. I´ve just seen some friends, taking a good long walk and enjoyed my balcony.
It is the modern jazz that worries me. I don´t get it. It is not on my wavelength at all. Free jazz? Sounds even more difficult.
You know, at heart I am still a simple punkrocker. Patti Smith?

jaz'd(ace & yada yada *sigh* chocolate yada) Posted Mar 16, 2003
Yes, I remember Patti, & people like David Johansen & The New York Dolls, & Mink DeVille, very early Elvis Costello, certainly The Clash...that whole scene.

Actually, 'Free Jazz' is too modern for me, we've had groups from Germany & Norway that played that, I guess it's more popular in Europe than in most of North America.

Hi j`z`c!.It`s so <> that youwhat you do.Are you at all familiar w/Joseph Campbell???His observation on life, the universe,& everything; to be happy in what you do-follow your bliss. That seems to be exactly what you do.I must remember to do a journal entry on him.His interviews w/Bill Moyers on pbs.really brought to life what his many books were about. Hi Neugen s & & s ! How're things going? Tried a really nice restaurant yesterday, The Blue Iguana Grill (right, South Western Cuisine), had a very plump Breakfast Burrito, with Chorizo sausage, etc ! Definitely worth further investigation/visits.
I'm somewhat familiar with Campbell, have always been subconciously meaning to read some of his work.

I have a feeling, Izzybelle, that what you were calling modern jazz & what I was calling free jazz are the same thing. I just find it too chaotic & from a traditional melodic standpoint, unstructured! I really think that some of the squeaks & squeals you hear sound like the musicians 'warming-up', or tuning their instruments before actually playing 'real' music.

I agree with you 100 per cent on this one, son!
For as long as I can remember, music has been a HUGE part of my life, and I think I'd go crazy without it...seriously....
My head seems to be this random jukebox where, if I don't have music playing (and sometimes when I do!) some random song will jump into my head! This morning I came into work with "Redemption Song" by Bob Marley in my head...??

Yeah, it's odd sometimes...about a year ago now I had my clock radio come on/wake me to a local radio station, that just happened to be playing The Rolling Stones' 'Satisfaction', as I woke up...had that guitar riff in my head all day!

One of the girls I work with and I have made a running joke of it....whenever we get a song in our head, we just email it along...Sometimes it's a fight to see who has the most dominant song....
(by the way, at the moment, it's "My Guy" )
Key: Complain about this post
