For me, 9/11 itself has been one of those pesky "coincidences" that's sort of bothersome. So it's maybe not so surprising to see other "coincidences" relevant to that one that are similarly bothersome.

Hitler came to power in Germany in no small part because of another pesky "coincidence" called the Reichstag Fire. He blamed it on the Communists of course but there's plenty of evidence I think to suggest the Nazis did it themselves.

I don't think Bush and Company is above that sort of thing. It would really surprise me if they were because they can't seem to seize power in any acceptably legal fashion. In fact their corporate vision seems to embody the very worst features of a criminal organization along the lines of the Mafia.

Coincidence? I don't think so. Do you?

No I don't think it is coincidence. Especially now I know the bombing of the Lusitania was faked to an extent (need to do more research on that one), but it got the american public to support going into WW1. Pearl Harbour was expected and most personnel pulled out in time, preventable but the fact it happened got the american public to support going into ww2. Plans for Afganistan and Iraq are now shown to have been planned before 9/11. Did that also happen so that the american public would support going into this war?

Its very possible and extremely tragic and sick. If anyone can prove this, I believe we would soon hear of their death, just like Dr Kelly.

Funny you should bring up the Lusitania.

Some guy did some direct research on that one recently, underwater archeology like stuff. The wreck's in like 600 feet of water so it ain't as difficult as the Titanic.

The ship was carrying munitions just like the Germans said but oddly enough the reason why it exploded and sank so fast wasn't because the munitions blew up but because the coal bins were nearly empty and filled with coal dust which detonated when the torpedo hit. This ripped open the starboard side of the vessel below the water line sinking it in like 20 minutes.

But the Allies didn't know that apparently and didn't want to admit there were munitions on board so the story got suppressed in favor of the bilge propaganda they put out to ultimately justify the US intervention.

An even more pernicious thing was the Zimmerman Telegram that's proved to be faked. That's the one where the Germans are supposedly conspiring with the Mexicans to take back all the land the US conquered in the Mexican War.

That Mexican War another bunch of coincidences maybe that people don't usually delve into. It's funny how this stuff seems to repeat itself practically all the way back to the Founding Fathers.

Anyways, the US was spoiling for new frontiers to plunder after finally finishing conquering the Philippines in 1913 so opportunity knocked and somebody answered even though most people probably weren't that interested.

While pretexts for war have always been suspect, it seems that fraud of this kind is a relatively new innovation brought on probably by the importance of the press in establishing public opinion.

Like the sinking of the battleship Maine in Havana harbor is also suspect and might have been a stunt orchestrated by William Randolph Hurst to sell newspapers. It sure didn't hurt Teddy Roosevelt's prospects for the presidency as it turned out.

And you can tell now, just by looking at a map, why Afghanistan and Iraq were specifically targeted. They bracket Iran, buh!! None of which has much if anything to do with 9/11 but that sure improved GWB's presidential prospects didn't it?

And just witness how dismissive Rummy acts at news conference. Just calling something a conspiracy theory seems to get the conspirators off the hook doesn't it?

Rummy reminds me of old newsreels you can sometimes look at in history seminar of Al Capone or some other flamboyant Mafia don. Same arrogant chuckle chuckle blow it off attitude. Could that be a coincidence too?

Kaz I linked to the stuff you are talking about when I first came to h2g2. Links about the voting machines and the union that transports,services them too. The www link was not available later. Maybe it was removed because it was untrue or the link was not good. Maybe it was removed in the large sweep over the FOIA site.

Bit of fun trivia - Some of the machines are made and maintained by manufactures of the slot-Vegas-type machines. Same biz with friends and enemies in the long over K adminstration. That generation has died of old age. I am sure it's all nonsense, who could believe that sort of organized evil exists?
Shame because it's such a tidy theory for the imagination.

Disturbing the phrase conspiracy theory has become a two word joke in this administration. Hmm how does that happen? What a coincidence it was pushed as a joke on late night shows and many others. Have you noticed how close Hollywood and Washington are these days? What happened to all those stars that were speaking out against the current administration? They must have changed their minds

Fox News Channel has sued liberal humorist Al Franken and the Penguin Group to stop them from using the phrase "fair and balanced" in the title of his upcoming book.

Fox News registered "Fair & Balanced" as a trademark in 1995, the lawsuit said.

Franken's "intent is clear -- to exploit Fox News' trademark, confuse the public as to the origins of the book and, accordingly, boost sales of the book," it said.

I believe Frankens intent is to tell the political truth as humorously as possible.

Oh, so do you mean since the Warren Commission concluded Oswald acted alone and there was no conspiracy to kill Kennedy, that that's where this current attitude blowing off conspiracy theories comes from?

Those people aren't all dead by the way. Teddy's still alive and kicking and probably still holding stuff back about that "accident" he had on that bridge and the people who were my age back then are running the country or some of them think they are. And they seem to have learned a good deal from their elders about how to oppress other people.

I really don't want to believe that the U.S. givernment has killed or let die, its own people merely to justify its plans. But of course it maybe that they have.

As Americans how does that knowledge make you feel?

How many soldiers did they sacrifice after the Gulf of Tonkin bilge in the Vietnam War? How did people feel about that? I don't know. I suspect not bad enough though.

I know for sure they got no problems sacrificing my people for "national defense". And what's really bad is there's very little that's defensive about it.

No but that is an interesting thought which may be right on.

The main point (i realise was lost)is the connection bewteen that era and current voting machine manufactors, ownership, transport,maintenace.

I doubt whether the US government or agencies had anything to do with 9/11 but that doesn't mean I don't believe that they would do something in that vain. In the US government's big scheme of things the only thing to be lost in 9/11 were 3,000 lives. The Bush administration now has everything to gain from the disaster. Under this proviso I am positive that the US governments through the years have had their hands dirtied by much more than even the little we guess at in current conspiracy theories.

I do not think it has to do with that day but the election - yes.

Whatever it is, I'm much more scared of Bush and the current administration than any so called threats posed by Bin Laden, North Korea, Iran etc etc etc.
