H2G2 is going up the toilet.
Posted Nov 3, 2005
I've watched this Lord Wolfden thing with some interest. This isn't a journal about that though. I don't care about LW and don't want to scream about the damage to the community...
Instead of pulling back, let's push forward. Instead of saying "Well, h2g2's going down the toilet" and jumping like rats in a flushing toilet (or some such) let's say "Let's fix it." So let's fix it.
For one thing, let's fix PR. Let's be kind and courteous, but mostly helpful and intelligent in our comments. Comment on entries on the front page and help newbies out. Write. Think.
Let's spend some time in the AWW <./>RF5</.>, which I consider the most underrated and underused part of h2g2. Submit entries there, comment, read. Become a miner (I'm the man to talk to about that). A1092494 Joining the UG was the best decision I ever made, UG-wise. Write a poem for !
Let's resolve to have fun, most of all. Some believe that the beauty of h2g2 is that you don't decide such things, but I certainly sensed that dozens of intelligent people decided to *stop* having fun. So start again, dammit.
Introspectiveness is not a bad thing. It's a good thing. But this is getting ridiculous. As Elvis said, A little less conversation, a little more action... That's what's going to solve this malaise, not banning people or people leaving. This is getting just silly.
As Vice President of h2g2, I order you all to.
- off to <./>RF5</.>.

I don't know how many of y'all care, but the state of Ohio has been a political... whatsit for a while now. Our Senate race next year is going to be something to marvel at. Paul Hackett, the straight-talking Democrat who almost won the deeply Republican Ohio 2nd Congressional district this year has thrown his hat in for the Dem nomination. Now it seems that Democratic Congressman Sherrod Brown, a truly great progressive (who initially said he wouldn't run), also has. They're both vying for the priviledge of dethroning the odious Mike DeWine.
Now, normally, I'd prefer Brown, but I just read this from a forum that Paul Hackett was posting in last night-
"it is 6:30 in Cincinnati
I bought the new Bob Dylan DVD No Direction Home and I'm looking forward to watching it with my wife.
Hackett out."
Who wouldn't want a Senator like that?
out.

Cabinet jobs, cabinet jobs, cabinet jobs.

Ahem.
*the Vice President stands behind a podium built for the President, making him look humorously gigantic. He begins his speech*
Friends, Ohioans, illegal immigrants...
The Hypatian administration is putting together a cabinet to help run this great government. We need ministers, apparently, because I've been informed that I can't do everything myself. Or, rather, I shouldn't.
Anyone and everyone is eligible for a cabinet post - whether you were or were not a supporter... whether you like or detest sheep... whether you think Ozark is a kind of deoderant... or not. We still need administrators for our various governmental programs - the great italic be-wigging, for the hamster pajama program and for the badger poverty initiative. We also need an interior decorator for my new office. I'm thinking an Old West motif.
Thank you, citizens. This speech is to be followed by a translation from Vice, Vice President blacksheep for the ovine section of the audience.
*the VP steps down, the VVP steps up*
Baaaah.

What do I do now? I am now, or soon will be (probably) Vice President of h2g2. I feel a bit limited in this role, having just written an entry entitled "The Vice Presidency of the United States of America - An Exercise in Futility". The entire Ozark Party (eventually earning 91 votes by the way) and I congratulate the 14 other candidates. My victory speech on behalf of Hyp is at F1916485?thread=1161555&skip=420&show=20#p13266416

...I appeal to you.
If there's anyone out there in internet world who hasn't yet voted for President of h2g2, please visit A5889261. I suggest voting for Hypatia - A5645531. If you need some convincing, I would be more than happy to do that. If you need some bribes... well that's okay too.
Together we can move mountains. Who'd've ever thought that pressing a few buttons could change the world for the much, much better?
