Real Vacation

I've been on a quasi-vacation from being an editor for a while now, but I'm going to take a real vacation... sort of.
From Saturday until Tuesday, I'll be going to Kentucky (no jokes, Hypatia ) and I'm not sure that they have come upon the internet yet in Kentucky, so I guess I'll be away from here for a few days.
I'll miss you all... and Ohio

Allow me to be the first to wish you a glorious Independence Day with all of your Kentucky cousins. Say hello to Joe Bob, Jim Bob, Billy Bob, Bobby Joe, Jimmy Joe, Willie and Bubba for me. Tell them that I hope they catch a big one.
Oh, and scratch Duke behind his ears for me.

So, how many hours to countdown? Do you have your fishing tackle and your coon dog loaded in the pickup yet?

I don't have any of that. Fishing tackle, coon dog or a pickup.
I'm from Ohio. Not Kentucky. We're industrial, intelligent and non-fishing people. We have coons, but we are industrialized and educated enough to stick a ra- in front of coon.

I suppose you're too fancy to say Possum Holler. You'd rename it Opossum Hollow. And you'll all be Scotch drinkers. No Kentucky Bourbon for Ohio.

Yeah, have a good (proper) vacation, eh, Jodan?
... but I confess to being completely mystified about all this Ohioan sophistication.
Oh well - everything's relative, I guess...
(Certainly that way in Kentucky, anyhow)

(sorry, Hyp. Couldn't resist...)

Now that's a example of a good Kentucky joke
Ohio's not sophisticated. Just civilized. Not much more, nothing less.

I appreciate that Mort, but wasn't worried about it.
You can really only make Kentucky jokes once you've lived in America long enough to absorb the culture of the Kentucks beyond their fried chicken.
I've realized something important about the Kentucks. If Y2K or some similar event had taken place, throwing us back into the age of the cavemen technologically, the Kentuckians would be head and shoulders above everyone else technologically because they've got Mammoth Cave.
Sometimes I think that those people aren't so dumb after all.

I think that is one of the funniest things you have said!
Either i haven't been listening, your average joke is pretty poor or I have a weird sense of humour...
I know which I think it is!
