Leaving some groups...

Post 1

Unhappily, I leave some of the volunteer groups here.

The Scouts.
The <./>ACE</.>s.
The Guruss.

My resignations are a result of a problem with the scouts I caused. I want to continue to honor my Code of Conduct, so I'm afraid *I* won't give any details.

Jodan, you have contributed more to h2g2 than anyone I know. You genuinely care about the site and have worked to make it a better place for all of us.

On a personal level, you have helped me enormously. You are always encouraging your friends to participate in the various activities on site - to stretch ourselves - to take a chance. Your enthusiam and positive outlook are infectious and you have inspired me to participate in things I would normally have shied away from.

The three groups you are leaving are diminished by your departure.

Jodan,

I applaud your discretion on what is obviously a very emotive issue for you to have resigned over.

However, whatever the reasons I know the groups that I have been involved with you in, will be the poorer for it. (Particularly the ACES who are really going to be struggling now as I am following you through the exit door too)

You can concentrate on contributing to the site via the Underguide and by writing entries yourself - you will be won't you?

Take care smiley - hug

Mort

Hello Jodan smiley - smiley

I do hope this means we'll still see your incisive (or is that picky?) comments in PR? smiley - winkeye It's a better place for your presence.

If you're doing what you feel is right, then good for you...

smiley - cheers

I'm very sorry to hear that Jodan. I know when I left the ACE's it was more to do with lack of activity than anything else. I'm sure someone reading this will know what you are on about, and they will surely feel - as I do - that those groups will be much the worse without your presence.

For Heaven's sake man, this is an over-reaction.

I think that some of the things that I've said in the Scouts Yahoo group are in part one of the reasons that you've made this decision. Now I know that there is some debate kicking off over there, but I can't access the group at the moment to try to calm things down a bit - different PC you see - but I will this evening (plus for however long Yahoo hang onto my e-mails before delivering them c.8hours smiley - erm).

In the meantime can I just say that you, Jodan, are a valuable member of these groups and I for one do not want to see you leave. Nor do I think that you should leave.

Jodan, I don't agree that your resignations are an appropriate response to the disagreement that initiated them. Like Greydesk I can't post directly to the Scouts group at the moment.

While I don't interact with you in your roles as a guru or ACE (so I'm not personally bothered whether you rejoin them as a volunteer smiley - winkeye) I would be miffed to lose your input as a fellow scout.smiley - sadface

When I do something that causes a reaction surprising to me (like the time I tried to test a fuse in a socket without reassembling the plug first smiley - magicsmiley - yikes) I think 'how do I avoid doing that again?' (and how do I mend that chair I flew into?) not 'Right, that's the last time I change a fuse' smiley - laugh

Please reconsider.

Wo, Mort! I hadn't noticed you were leaving! smiley - yikes When I decided I had to go, one of the first things I thought of is that I was dumping a bigger workload on everyone else, and that you would probably shoulder much of the burden.

I guess I should read my Aceforum messages more often smiley - erm

Thanks all, by the way. It's not a decision likely to change, but thanks for trying smiley - smiley

I doubt that that was an easy decision to make.

You should do what you think is the right thing for you Jodan.

I always think that if you can't do what you like online, when can you?

You can always go back to those groups later if you feel like it.

Just though I'd let you know that your bouncing sheep look really weird in Opera. All I see is their rear ends going up and down smiley - bigeyes

They don't drift in my version of Opera? smiley - erm

But lets not let this drift until we get Jodan back..

Sheep don't bounce at all in Safari, but I kept it because of the bouncing buttocks in Opera smiley - winkeye

Waz - I'm not leaving the UG. No way smiley - ok

B - I've come to expect both from you at the same time... smiley - tongueout

Sprout - Good point. Online is an escape world - why make it unpleasant, eh?

Thanks all, and you have my permission to topic drift as much as you like about the deformities of sheep, fresh inaccuracies in my personal space or much you all love me...

Okay, begin.

Oddly I'm now getting whole smiley - blacksheep in Opera instead of just their bums as before. I've checked the testuserthingy and you haven't changed any of the code.

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

So, you've decided to take your ball home, Jodan! smiley - blacksheep

I tend to agree with Greydest and Pimms. I too think you've over-reacted; I agree that you were provoked big-time.

Take some time out and look at the e-mail on the scouts group from Jims. You couldn't ask for a better citation.

Boy-oh... you people really do care about a couple or three badges.

I saw the e-group. I saw the email from Jims. I figured he would react like that. smiley - smiley I am grateful, but unchanged.

It's like the animation.

smiley - blacksheep bounces up. Has badges, does things, always busy.
smiley - blacksheep bounces down. Has more free time, writes more entries, has no worries from scouting and the arguments of it.

Imagine moving like that on a carousel for a while and you'll want to get off.

Err... what was I talking about? smiley - erm
