"GTB probably wouldn't like unusual cookies"
Try me!
Hello, Hypatia. We haven't really met, but I think I've seen you around. Pleased to meetcha!
Polishing should be largely as Jodan described it. Mining just involves hanging out in AWW (later to be called... APR or UR or AR), and choosing a couple of gems to suggest for inclusion in the UG once a month. Once you've decided what you're mining that month, you fire off a couple of emails, and that's about it.

It's lovely to meet you, too.
As for the cookies....I'm practically the best cookie baker in the entire Ozarks. It's too bad this community is so spread out, or my official job could be Under Guide Cookie Baker. I'm going to make sugar cookies on sticks for my summer reading kids to decorate on Tuesday afternoon.
Like I told Jodan, I'll be glad to do what I can for the UG. I could manage a couple of recommendations a month for inclusion. Or I'll polish. Whatever the two of you want me to do is ok.
I have another question. If I work as a polisher or miner, would that disqualify me from submitting things to AWW?

OOh, are you joining us Hypatia? It is good to see you rattling around the UnderGuide.
And I have been using as a smiley. Well, it looks like a miner to me.

Absolutely not! Scouts and even Italics can submit to PR, after all.

Thanks, Ben. I've been intending to get involved for a while - bookmarked the Yahoo list - started reading AWW stuff. FwT told me about it and thought I should join. Then I got distracted and didn't really do anything.
Anyway, this looks like a good way to contribute to the site. And I think that it's a teriffic idea.

GTB and I should be making some decisions and letting the miners and polishers know soon
I told you looked like a miner

Yep, that's today, Jodan.
Likewise, Hypatia. I do enjoy your poems and should have said so before now. I was very touched by the piece about your father too.
Hey, Jodan! Is it right that the UG's going to be strictly for fiction? What's to become of other genres that the EG won't allow?
I love a good polemic now and again, f'rexample...

Hi Pin
No UG is open for all types of work, as long as it is your own original work.
I think I (with my strong fiction interest) might have given the wrong impression with the thread I started in Ask H2G2. Although I was sure I'd covered all angles.
But fear not, for if there is something that doesn't belong in the Edited Guide, then theres a fair old chance that it can find a home in the UnderGuide

Thanks Verc
We'll accept almost any exceptional piece of writing ineligible for the EG. To add what Verc said, it has to be your original work, follow the house rules and has to be unsuitable for the EG. One of the earliest pages calculated that we have 79% less guidelines. I'm working on a page here--> A1092395

i think you can drop the first guideline so that you just have 2.

I think it's worth saying about the House Rules. Though you do have a point, it would be hidden if it contravened the House Rules and that would make it ineligible.
Still worth saying though

is that the first? i thought that was the second. i think you must keep that, as since h2g2 is in pre-moderation that an entry against the house rules won't be moderated at first and it might be up to us to yikes the entry and not allow it into the UG.
the rule i think isn't needed as the 'original work' one, as, since we are saying follow the house rules as a rule we don't need it since it not being your original work would be breaking the house rules.
