Thursday (March 16) was my RL birthday... a very nice one incidentally, I have some very nice things to keep me busy now. However, my favorite gift of all could come from you, the h2g2 researchers.
The <./>UnderGuide</.> is beginning a recruitment drive - we need fresh blood to keep the UG running at a full pace. I've issued these sorts of requests before, but if you would like to join in, know someone who might, have hesitated before, have the badge but aren't really active, have tried to join before, etc, now's a pretty good time to do it. You don't have to be a brilliant literature critic to volunteer for the UG - I'm one of its longest serving volunteers and I can barely find my way through most novels. However, the UG has been immensely rewarding for me, and taking a part in it was one of my best choices (if not the best one) on h2g2. Plus you get a neat purple badge.
*ahem* Now that that personal testimonial is done, go ahead and signal your delight at this fabulous opportunity. Go on. You are transfixed by the power of the Jade Sheep

Having responded to your last membership drive (sounds a bit like NPR!) I'll just wish you a happy birthday.

And you are how old? 47?
Here, I baked you a little something. It isn't brownies, seeing as how you make fun of my brownies and I'm running low on th especial ingredient. It is a . It would be polite of you to share.
I also have a gift certificate here to that new sheep clipping emporium in Dayton - Klippers R Us.

At first I thought that the seven in 47 was an question mark... and I thought you were making fun of me, but now I realize you are, but in a different way
Share? With my sheep? Sure.
EMR, does it sound like NPR? Sorry. (Have I mentioned lately that Jimster mentioned me on NPR... um, a year or two ago? I'm quite fantastic you know) But I do thank you for responding, as many of the people on my friend's list have (I wonder what percentage of my friends have the purple badge of honor?). If anyone can think of someone they know who may be interested though, any help is appreciated.

Not making fun of you at all. It's just that you are Mr. Mysterious and I don't know how old you are.

I don't talk about my personal life on h2g2 unlike some of us who unload about sitting on children and throwing people out of windows.

Hypatia Posted Mar 20, 2006
If you had my job you'd sit on children and throw board members out of attic windows yourself.
I'm glad you had a good birthday, no matter how old you are. One thing I like about this place is that it doesn't really matter how old someone is.

I can't imagine how hard it must be to be a librarian - let alone h2g2 President.
Almost as hard as h2g2 Vice President, I would guess

I couldn't agree more!

What is this, the Defenestration of Prague?
<>
Not recently - it was about a year ago, though, because I remember the event being announced but couldn't be bothered to find the story online and listen to it.

"What is this, the Defenestration of Prague?"
Umm, well, that very much depends on what the Defenstration of Prague is. I'm hoping it refers to throwing people out a window, because I just couldn't bear my missing a mass event of sitting on small children in the history books.
Yeah, Jims mentioned something about me wanting to chart the history of every US president, which was new to me, but I guess I have to do it now, right? Oh well, if anybody complains, I'm blaming Jimster.

Defenstration of Prague. ah yes, remember it well. I believe a dung heap was also involved.
EMR, I have never actually sat on a child or thrown anyone out of a window. Although I have been sorely temped. My favorite fantasy concerning the library is to have a chute running from the children's library directly to the street. With one of those trap door things over it. Loud obnoxious kid stands on the door and bingo - he's outside the building. We need another one in the computer lab to send the mother who is too busy chatting with prisoners on a convict message board to keep her kid quiet.

Jodan, it's about throwing some ambassadors out a window - it started the 30 Years' War.
I finally listened to it - I thought Jims sounded very poised.

Happy last Thursday Jodan
If I were you I'd just claim to be 42. I've been 42 since joining h2g2. It is still broadly accurate.

"Defenstration of Prague. ah yes, remember it well."
Were you there?
It's Jade, well, it's a play on on the Woody Allen movie "The Curse of the Jade Scorpion". One of Woody's better recent films, I think.
I thought Jims could have talked more about me, but otherwise it was a good interview
Thanks Pimms

Oh, er, um, can anyone help the UG out then?
Ask a friend, mention it, take up a shovel. It really can make all the difference. Plus, you get this lovely tote bag ("oooh")
