Everyone's a critic. What can I say?
Oh well, I suppose I don't need a critter. Just another mouth to feed. And I don't want to look like a copy cat anyway.
I have a major scheduling snafu over a workshop next week. It looks like I'll have to drive 260 miles to a different site and miss the magic show I have scheduled for the kiddies.
I did survive the trip yesterday to McDonald County. That's Survivalist territory. Survivalists can be a little too intense for my tastes.

I've had the sheep for about a year and a half. I don't think you run the risk of looking like a copy cat.

Speaking of magic, I've been invited to join the Magician's Guild. It looks like fun, but it also looks time consuming. Time for fun is in short supply right now. I'll see if I can set up my character but stay fairly inactive for the time being. It looks a lot like Dungeons and Dragons.
I have booked a magician to kick off our Summer Reading program. Actually a magicianess. She puts on a great show, and the kids and moms will enjoy it. Then we'll give everyone free food - chili dogs, chips, pop, and a cookie - give them their program schedules and reading contest rules and send them home.

Just getting this conversation out of your dungeon. Will ask Wolfgang to post occassionally to keep it from dying until you get back.

Thanks, little lady. We should be able to reach 1600 before he gets back, don't you think?
Speaking of thinking, exactly what kind of a Godfather is Jodan? I'm sort of hoping he's the traditional Italian Godfather because I'm hungry for Italian food and was thinking about adding an Italian day to the Diner. Nothing elaborate. And nothing fancy. Just good old pastas and breads and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. The stuff real people eat. Maybe a soup or two.

Hypatia Posted Jul 1, 2004
That's an excellent question, Wolfgang. I don't thing Jodan is Italian. Who ever heard of an Italian who hated tomatoes and most other healthy vegetables and fruits? The Mediterranean diet is the healthiest in the world, after all.
I applaud your efforts to serve a healthier cuisine at the Diner. The current menu is a heart attack waiting to happpen.
Could you name a dish after Jodan? Godfather grilled chicken breasts with kiwi chutney or maybe a dessert. hOw about a gelato with Little Debbie cakes on the side?

I do dislike tomatoes.
I don't think I am Italian. I don't think I am anything at all, in fact. Are you anything?

Hypatia Posted Jul 1, 2004
Not really. When people ask I always tell them that I am a true American - a little of this and a little of that.
I have English, German, and Cherokee blood that I know of. There are also rumors of a Scottsman in the woodpile, but I'm not sure about that.
I can't access any of my files today, so I can't work. The internet works, but not the rest of the network. My systems administrator is supposed to be here sometime this afternoon. I think it's tied to a new filtering system we have. Our cataloging software won't work, either.
We had about 70 yesterday, in pouring rain, for our magicianess. What a mess. We got the tent up so everyone was dry for the program. But trying to have a cookout in the rain was a real adventure. And the weather kept a lot of people away so we had too much stuff.
I hurt my back yesterday. Didn't sleep at all last night. I'm miserable and need some time off. Which is totally impossible. Next Tuesday we start our regular kids summer programs. They'll last until July 28th. Hope I'm feeling better by then or I may wind up slapping someone.

It's looking good. I did decide to put up the tree. I'll decorate it with patriotic ornaments. It should be . I have about 25 people coming. We used to always have a July 4th picnic, so I'm just reinstating it.
I'm glad it's a Sunday. That will give me a day to recuperate before I go back to work.

The picnic was a semi-success. The weather was dreadful on Sunday morning and my yard was a tad on the soggy side. But everyone seemed to have a good time. And I was reminded about the time Uncle Harvey spiked the punch. Seriously, I think I'll try to find time to write it up. Grandma always made the punch and she was temperance. Whereas Uncle Harvey was a moonshiner.
Actually, I'm just moving this conversation out of your dungeon.

Oh... right.
Exactly how much of your family were/are moonshiners?
I admit your family does have some of that hillbilly innovational attitude. And that's a particularly potent compliment coming from an Ohioan from Dayton (Dayton has the most per capita patents of any US city, if the Montgomery County website is any indication of truth)
I wish I'd have known that when we were battling that Missouri vs. Ohio fight.

Ok, explain the tag after your name. What kind of statistic are you?
Did we ever actually resolve the Ohio/Missouri thing? I believe we agreed, in a gentlemanly fashion, to call it a tie. Unlike the Central Division standings at the moment.
Did you notice that the only team in major league baseball with a better record that the Cardinals is the Yankees? With their gazillion dollar payroll. Which means they don't actually count.
We both know the Cards will blow it, but it's nice right now, nonetheless.
I have/had only a minimal number of relatives with actual stills. However, there are quite a few winemakers.

J Posted Jul 9, 2004
I'm probably some sort of statistic. Part of the state population of Ohio.
It's just a nickname.
I'm not going to argue about the Cardinals, because... frankly... http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/cin/news/cin_gameday_recap.jsp?ymd=20040707&content_id=792268&vkey=recap&fext=.jsp

Indeed.
I don't mind that much when the Reds top the division, but I hate it when the Cubs do.
So, any distillers in your family tree?

Hypatia Posted Jul 10, 2004
I'll try. I'm not sure I'm up to it, but I'll try.
You'll do about anything to keep the discussion away from the Red's slide.

Pin told me to invite you in his invitation for me.
So one might consider that a compliment, especially from a picky person like Pin.

Well, I wouldn't want to be a gate crasher - or in this case a bus hijacker.
The idea of time travel is intresting. We could do quite a bit with it. Who came up with the idea - Pin or Waz?
H

J Posted Jul 10, 2004
Pin, I believe, came up with it. I'm not sure why he decided to start it again, or with Waz.
You're no hijacker. Except on the other thread
